If you are not a software developer and if you do not have a Perdix AI, I am not sure what qualifies you to insult me regarding the facts that I posted or statements regarding my own feelings.

I've said it before: Shearwater computers are extremely high quality and their customer service is top notch. But, that doesn't mean they are absolutely perfect in all things. Look at their firmware release notes and observe all the bugs they have fixed over time. They DO have a bug here or there, from time to time.

In the case of AI, it is better than half-baked, for sure. But, the AI feature does not have the "mature" feeling that I, for one, have come to expect from their gear.

    - There is no way to look at the log in the dive computer as see start or end tank pressure or SAC for a dive.

    - The GTR (Gas Time Remaining) displayed, and how it is not what many people (at least, here on SB) agree they would want, is well-discussed here on SB. The GTR does not reflect all the ascent time that the computer will prompt for, and it doesn't display at all once you go into deco. Oceanic has had GTR "right" for years. Why should a company with Shearwater's reputation go backwards on this? If I'm going into a few minutes of deco, which I will oblige using back gas, why would the GTR stop displaying? Especially if I only have one active gas configured?

    - I spent an hour trying to update my firmware from V40 to V44 yesterday and it kept failing, with different error messages each time. But, it successfully downloaded my dives. This was using the latest Shearwater Desktop, on a Macbook Pro Retina, running macOS 10.12.5.

    - The (latest) Shearwater Desktop software downloaded my dives, and it shows my tank pressure, but it doesn't show my overall SAC for the dive anywhere. It only shows the instantaneous SAC for any given point in the dive, if I hover over the graph.

    - I had two transmitters on my dive on Saturday. One on my back gas and one on my deco bottle. They are both paired to my Perdix. But, I did not have the Perdix configured to actually display the tank pressure from my deco bottle on the display, so it did not capture any tank pressure data at all, for my deco bottle, in the log. At least, I'm assuming that's why it didn't capture any T2 data.

From my perspective, as an owner and user of a Perdix AI (and, formerly, a Petrel 2), the AI feature simply has a "not fully mature" feel to it - which is not something I have come to expect from a Shearwater computer. I had a detailed email exchange with the Engineering Manager from Shearwater back in early February, regarding the way GTR currently works. All I got was "thank you for your input", which is fine. That doesn't bother me at all. But, the computer has been out for 8 months now and, as far as I know, there have been no changes or improvements in the firmware or the desktop software at all, to address any of the issues with AI.

It's a (positive) testament to Shearwater that we (here on SB) would even be talking about something like this. If we were talking about the way AI works on a Hollis TX-1, I don't think ANYONE would be discussing getting improvements from Hollis, based on user feedback, and why none have come out in 8 months time. It is precisely because Shearwater sets such a high bar for responsiveness that I or anyone else would even have the thought to give feedback and get an update so soon.

Anyway, like I said, Shearwater is awesome. Computers and company. But, that doesn't blind me to things that could be improved. There is no need to respond to me as if I've insulted your religion.

No issue with Microsoft here. I run Linux, macOS, and Windows 7. Shearwater software for working with the Perdix AI only works on one of those - Mac - and that's where I'm using it.

Yeah, I had all the updates and it still wasn't working till I made my PC disconnect and re-establish the Bluetooth connection with the Perdix AI.

I checked into this today. Yesterday was Canada Day so no one was around.

We had an initial contact with a Subsurface developer early in the year and provided a computer for development use. There were two further emails, one did not reply to and one that we did not reply to promptly. We supplied the technical information required for the development of the BTE connection several months ago.

It has never been Shearwater's policy to selectively respond to emails, and new processes are now in place to ensure that every tech support email is not only marked complete, but that a response is sent to the sender.

We will continue to support the Subsurface community.

I just want to publicly say a big, sincere thank you to Bruce and the other folks at Shearwater. They reached out to me offline, because of this thread and, man, they are such a class act all around. I'll freely admit to just assuming that when I did not get a reply to my email a while back it was because they just didn't have time for me, possibly didn't care to share their proprietary interface specs to an "unknown" entity (me), and maybe didn't take me seriously in my expression of interest in working on Subsurface support for the Perdix AI. After all, who am I to them?

It is clear to me now that their attitude is nothing like that. I have started 2 software companies of my own, in the past, and am in the process of starting a 3rd one now. I do have a deep appreciation for the difficulties that come with running a small company and how easy it is for little things to fall through the cracks - like an email from a pushy customer who sends one message and then never follows up. I didn't follow up because I wrongly failed to give Shearwater enough credit for their dedication to responding to even the most inane messages from customers (not that I think my message was inane). Had I not made a bad assumption, and followed up with them, I would have gotten the info I was looking for months ago and maybe completed Perdix AI support myself by now.

So, again, thank you Bruce, and thank you to your other folks there at Shearwater. Thank you for both your dedication to your customers and also thank you for caring enough to read my earlier posts, research things on your end, and "make it right" as it were. I think my earlier posts came across as a bit bitter. I apologize for that and I can't say enough how impressed I am with how you've handled it.

    Cheers!

Thx for the follow up and setting the record straight on Shearwater's excellent support of their products - both directly and indirectly!

This is exactly why I've only ever use Shearwater computers - they are the standard in not only technology but customer service to which every other manufacturer should strive to achieve. Well done Shearwater.

Stuart, It takes a good man to admit to acting on a wrong impression and doing what it takes to set the record straight and what I've seen is you reflecting after things get a bit heated and coming back with grace and not making excuses. In your last post you spoke only of the good that shearwater has done and not of where they fell short and you spoke only of your mistakes without justifications. Good on you. You are an asset.

Shearwater rocks as usual and yes, sometimes even they are human.

I don't know if there is any difference in protocols for AI and non-AI Perdix,so, are you planing to work on a non-AI support?
