I just asked my husband (who has HOG regs on his doubles) if he'd ever grabbed the first stage instead of the valve knob during a drill, and he looked at me in confusion and said no.

I have MK25/S600s on my doubles, and I really like them, but our HOG regs breathe just as well. The only reason I still have the SP regs is because we had just had them serviced when we bought our HOGs, so it didn't make sense to sell them until they needed service again :)

But anyway, there are a LOT of kinds of equipment you'll never see reviewed in a magazine, because either the company doesn't advertise, or won't provide the gear for testing for free.

I am a balanced piston fan, have been for years. I REALLY LOVE how they route on bothdoubles and stage/deco bottle. i actually personally don't so much like how the D1 routes, the 5th port made it better but I really didn't like it. It's acceptable....barely. But that was the first HOG first stage and other than Chrome choice and HP Seat material it wasn't unique to me. It's a super solid reg however and I don't regret starting there at all.

Now.... in 6-7 weeks the D3 will be in stock and shipping, it is NOT a reg you have seen before unless I showed you at DEMA. It also is clean sheet design and not a copy of anything on the market. it's smaller than the D1, routes like a BP2 and outperforms the D1 to boot.

I can comment on this a bit more clear. I believe what Duane means is NOT the high pressure port of the HOG first stage. Rather, it is the high pressure end (with red environmental seal end) sticks out more than Scubapro Mk25 or most balance piston first stage when mounted horizontally with the 5th port facing inside of the double setup. Mk25 when mounting that say it is almost flat with nothing blocking the valve. With HOG, the 1st stage stick out a little. In valve drill, one can potentially grab the first stage instead of the valve wheel. Nothing major, just a little inconvienice if you are not used to it. It is my personal experience compared to Mk25 as well. I don't think this is unique to HOG tho, same thing should apply to DST and Hollis DC1 type of first stage.

To the Op's point..

I don't really do magazine ads or play the review game. I did just send Scubalab two EDGE regs for their summer reg issue to test. Honestly i am VERY confident in the regs, not so much in the review because I don't buy ads. Only time will tell if that was a good idea to send... :-)

IN one of my subscriptions they ran the Best gear of 2010, or was it 2011...any ways they picked Brand A Style B as the Best Buy of The Year out of six competitors. Six months later they did another dive gear review and it had same competitors again but this time picked Brand B Style A as the Best Buy of the Year. Two reviews of the same exact gear but two different results or Best Buys...it was nice to see everyone get a chance to be Best Buy of the Year...just like Kindergarden :)

Oh, well that makes me feel better.... ROFLMAO

See now that's just teasing!

If you guys do the service of your HOGs yourself you will be able to service your MK25/S600 :) no need to sell them.

I hope it does not have red color scheme. The only problem I have so far with HOG is the "ugly" red/black color scheme combination.:) Im for some reason alergic to red on the regs especially when it paired up with black.

Please tell me that you will continue to offer service parts on the D1s for those of us that bought 5 sets.....
