I think That was rather uncalled for and quite rude.

quite right... our tems of service do not allow personal attacks on members, so
i have edited the posts in question as little as possible to remove the personal
attacks and keep the convo going in the intended direction

anyone who hasn't read our TOS, please check them out here:

would you please prononce "DSNCDFKONKBSSBSS" for me? I don't think it counts as an aconym unless you can say it. ( and being from a former eastern block country doesn't count )

it's pronounced "DisneyCodFakingOnCab BSS BSS"

roughly

Walter:
Pete,

You are correct.

But Walter, for Pete to be correct there would have to be EIGHT hoses! (See Mike Veitch's answer--Ref: Linnaeus) :eyebrow:

Moonwrasse:
And why is it called an "octopus" when it doesn't have 8 legs?
Correctly, the alternate 2nd stage should be called a unipus or monopus.

Also as octopi try to camouflage themselves, the alternate 2nd stage should be likewise well disguised from your buddy instead of being bright yellow

:mfight:

Ah, but that's part of the camouflage, it's misdirection, the buddy goes for that instead of the important parts.

First, I'm NOT an Instructor and I've never wanted to be an instructor.
Okay - got this from your Dive Info on your Profile...
Biography: old, grouchy, but Very handsome
Location: Alaska
Occupation: Photographer
Gender: Undisclosed
Logged Dives: 3000+
Dive Classification: Instructor/Assistant Instructor/DM
Just clicked the wrong box maybe...?

Don, it says Instructor/Assistant Instructor/DM.

Only one of those three things is an instructor.. perhaps he is a DM.

Can we please get back on subject?? The poster asked a serious question.

The actual origin of the term can be found HERE.

A rather unwilling DM. I only got that rating to help out a buddy who had become an independant instructor. I no longer live near him so I do none of the DMing stuff anymore.
I didn't mean to make it sound like some big mystery or something. I tend to think of it as the least of my accomplishments.
