I appreciate all of the feedback, but my specific question is whether anyone has any information on the different algorithms used in Suunto vs. Uwatec and which algorithm is more conservative. I know that Uwatec uses the Buhlmann algorithm and I am very familiar with its time/depth limitations. In fact, I love my Aladin Pro, I just want included nitrox capability as well as air integration. I am just curious to know if the Suunto would be more conservative or less conservative in its time/depth calculations. Thanks!

You need to go the UWATEC.com site and download the owner's manual for the smartcom. I think if you want conservative and NITROX your dreams and questions will be answered.

The file is PDF and about 26 pages...

I just received my new Smart Pro(wrist, non AI version of the Smart Com) today, and so far I'm impressed with it. This is a backup computer for my Nitek 3(the VR3's are still a bit costly, but that will be in the future). You need to have a computer with an IR interface(luckily my laptop has one built in) to change many of the features, but that's the only drawback I see so far. I will dive the computer Wed, Thur, and Friday this week. I expect to put 8 or 9 dives on it, but I will leave it down in the cave(assuming there are few enough people around that I can do so without worry of it being stolen) during a SI one dive so that I can violate it and see if it locks me out or not. According to the manual, if you violate a deco stop(meaning you are shallower than 3ft for more than 3 minutes) the computer will display "SOS" on the screen, and lock you out for 24 hours. The way I read it, it will NOT lock you out until AFTER you exit the water.

The Uwatec line is definitely less conservative than the Suunto line(although I don't know about the Vytec), but you can choose the conservativeness with the selectable "Microbubble levels" on the Smart Pro/Com. I prefer to have a computer that gives me the info with NO conservatism in it, so that I know EXACTLY where I stand.
