Thanks Rick,
That resonates. I am a photographer (of sorts...) and spend quite a bit of time inverted to keep my fins off the reef.

Been a very helpful thread.

Rick Murchison:
U wing tends to taco more than O wing on single tank
U wing tends to trap gas on one side when maeuvering for that perfect photo in a head down position, upsetting the neutral dynamic stability essential to such a task
O wing, since it transfers gas side-to-side easily when head down is self stabilizing
Rick

Grajan:
I'm all for having manufacturers engaged in the board but there are times when standing back and learning from the discussion might be (have been.....) a wise move.

We have already had an extensive discussion offline and you are clearly not an unbiased consumer here so please try not to derail what was shaping up to be a useful and educational thread.
I think Tobin was completely within his right to refute an uninformed and misleading comment about his product. IMHO, it's a shame that more manufacturers don't participate in such an active manner.

Me too for heaven's sake. Trouble is the only reason Tobin had to refute anything was because he had already dived into a thread that he knew was started by someone trying to get OBJECTIVE opinions about alternatives to HIS gear configuration (we had already talked this morning).

I have absolutely nothing against Tobin - he seems very knowledgable and willing to help and I think it is great that manufacturers are active here BUT it is a delicate balance and they do need to recognize when it is appropriate to take a back seat and allow an unfettered discussion to take place. If that had happened there would have been nothing to refute.

Okay, makes sense. I've not experienced that problem and I guess it's because I use very little to no air in the bladder.

Grajan:
as a clearly biased observer it would have been better to keep out in the first place

tobin has a better place in this conversation than you or I, because he has actual experience in the design and manufacturining of plates and wings. i don't understand why anyone would give a damn about his 'bias' since i presume we're all adults than can discount any biased information if we think it needs to be discounted...

Put down your crack pipe.

I'm VERY glad Tobin cleared things up. I've looked at his plates online and wondered "now are those insterts bonded or are they just grommets?" Grajen's comment left me thinking they WERE just pop-in grommets and I was dissapointed. Tobin comes back with some great info and... ta-da - We all now have better information, and if Tobin hadn't contributed to this thread I would have walked away with MISINFORMATION about his product. All the participation in this thread has been helpful for me.

I'm also glad Tobin spoke up (it doesn't happen often enough, to my concern) ...

... but I think we should try to put this train back on the tracks now ... :eyebrow:

:11: Hey! Get your quotes right. I never made any reference to Tobin's plates other than to say they were my preferred option. I think it was Henryville who 'blasphemed' - he has wisely chosen to keep his head down.

They look really well made to me. My only problem (and a minor one for all that - despite all the fuss) was that I started the thread asking for USER experience with the two types of wings. I was well aware of Tobin's views as we had been discussing them already this morning - oh well - provided some entertainment in an otherwise pretty dull day.....

It has certainly been a useful discussion. I know what I am going to buy now.

Thanks to all.
