They also told me they are no longer allowed to send loaner units out, and to contact Shearwater directly if I needed one.

That is very unfortunate, fix the Terics so you don't need to send as many back.

I've noticed that behavior as well, when I put my Teric on the charger it instantly jumps up 10-20% in charge. It is probably a function of how the power manager measures voltage.

But to add a *knocks on wood* data point. Both my Terics were replaced in Sept 2023, my primary Teric had a battery replacement Aug 2024. My back up Teric didn't need one at the time. Now they are only 6% off on charge and it has been almost a month since I charged them. Normally I would be seeing 10-20% and increasing difference.
Agreed...I think it's normal. I had to charge my "good" Teric today and it also jumped when put on the charger (from 28-36).

I received my repaired Teric #8 from Dive-Tronix yesterday after it underwent battery replacement following 1 year of use. Each time I get back a replacement or repaired Teric, I hope that one will be perfect. I hope that again now. The 2-year clock has been restarted.

Mine just went for a long spa weekend in Snohomish, after a Shearwater-requested diagnostic -- compass + AI turned off; fully charged, and turned off for 48 hours -- produced a mondo zero percentage . . .

What restarted the 2-year clock for you? Battery replacement? Computer replacement?

The reason I'm asking is my Teric (purchased Feb. 2022) is currently at Dive Tronix for battery service. It started showing signs of significant battery degradation about 9 months after I bought it. I just never got around to dealing with it until recently. I didn't neglect it though. I charged it up from ~5-10% to full every three weeks or so, always using the Teric charger, etc. I'm a holiday diver and my days at surface has been much longer than I would otherwise like. Yes, my Teric has led a very lazy life, but was always taken care of.

The email I received from Dive Tronix states: "6-month repair warranty on all parts replaced/installed, except consumables such as alkaline, lithium and SAFT batteries and screen protectors."

The email sounded to me like there is no obligation for Shearwater to provide any warranty service for battery issues that may continue. To be clear, it looked like standardized template language in the list of items in the email. I don't want to give the impression that the statement in the email seemed out of place or suspect. A little disappointing to read sure, but that's all. (edit to add: I paid for the battery service and didn't expect to not have to pay, nor did I ever even ask about it. My fault for not dealing with it during the normal warranty time period. I was hoping for a bit more of a guarantee/warranty after paying for the service though.)

I added my vote to the poll ("Yes, repair") and hopefully this one go solves it.

Side note, Dive Tronix has been great. Highly communicative, excellent turn around, etc.

I had been told in the past that a Teric battery replacement included a 2 year warranty. So, if the battery had to replaced within 2 years, it would be under warranty. Meaning, if it got replaced every 23 months, it would always be done under warranty.

If that has changed, that is VERY disappointing.

Hi @Corby B

So, your Teric is being repaired out of warranty. I would imagine that makes the difference. A shame that you did not take care of it earlier.

I have had 7 replacements and 3 repairs now, all under warranty.

My most recent battery replacement indicates that it is under warranty, consistent with the statement by @stuartv

If you have further questions, I'm sure that Michele and Richard would be glad to answer you.

Thank you both for the responses.

Yes, my service was out of warranty, so it's definitely possible that fact impacted what would be covered going forward when compared to under warranty service. That's entirely on me.

I'll just be hopeful that A) my single out of warranty service resolves my battery issue, and B) if it doesn't resolve it I'll address it timely and hope Shearwater's reputation for customer service holds strong and I don't have to pay for repeated early battery replacements.
