All this talk and excitement about getting there...

Does no one care about getting back to the airport when it is over?

Free LOB shuttle back to airport

I think you missed the point... NO ONE cares much about getting home...

Haha ok, maybe I missed the point, but I do care about getting home. I miss home after a week’s travel lol! Mostly I miss my puppies. :p

Except - a few weeks ago we encountered yet another over booked flight situation. The airline started at $400 cash (not flight coupons that expire next week!)

I was mildly interested since I had no commitments the next day - but shut it down once I realized that a delay in my first leg would result in us being on a red eye for the second leg. No deal. My travel partner did have a conference call commitment the next morning.

Then they went to $800. This is now more interesting. $1600 in our pockets? But we did not bite. I do not know if anyone took advantage because shortly after they cancelled our flight. And pushed all of us to the next day.

Should have taken the money and ran.

Get some cats. They really don't care who feeds them. As long as they get petted and fed by their servants they are happy.

Ok, this thread has sufficiently scared me such that I’m leaning towards taking the hotel shuttle rather than some random cab despite it costing a tiny bit more.

Cab ~$25
Shuttle = $30 for 2 pax

$5 for peace of mind :D

There's always a line of "random" cabs waiting on a fare, so you wouldn't have any trouble catching one. I'd certainly rather catch a cab rather than wait for a shuttle. And they all know the Ft George Radisson. But it's all good.

Do decline the offers from the baggage handlers. If you take a taxi, it's a thirty second walk down the sidewalk once you get outside. If you're catching a shuttle, it's at most a one minute walk into the parking lot.

Whichever way you go, be prepared for the "First time in Belize?" ice breaker question, lol.

Taking the boats shuttle on arrival does usually take more time than a cab ,as they'll wait for at least everyone they're picking up from your flight. Including the people who got off last, and the ones who can't find their luggage. But they'll put your luggage right on the boat even if it's not time to board. Not sure with the hotel shuttle, probably luck of the draw.

At least the time I recall, departure morning we cleared off the boat and hung out at the FG with our luggage in the hotel lobby until close to flight time, and they did a few shuttle runs so you didn't have to wait at the airport. The hotel lobby was hot and we got eaten by mosquitos. The airport was worse.

I hate you. I had completely repressed those memories.

But they are totally correct.

I'm sitting here now waiting on a callback from Delta.

Last year they changed my outbound flights so that we arrived AFTER the boat left. I called them to whine about trouble/additional expense and the response was "too bad/so sad". So I bit the bullet and booked us and additional day early at the FG.

This year they just changed my return from Tuesday to Wednesday, but left my connection in Atlanta on Tuesday. The little notification said I "may" miss my connection. You reckon?

To get back on topic... The last two summers they loaded both the BA3 and BA4 guests on a bus at 0800 and hauled us to the airport for those with the noon flight. They said there was a second run at about 1100 for the late flight folks.

Those wooden-slat benches in the waiting area at the airport totally suck.

It's people like you that totally suck the anticipated enjoyment of a LOB vacation out of us.

Please let the rest of us continue to wear our rose colored sunglasses while we continue to ignore all real-life implications of real life.

It is about MY vacation after all.

P.S. Good diving....
