I have had braided regulator hoses leak on the surface but never underwater.
The kind of leak is when turning on the air you can feel air coming out all over the hose.
I suspect it is due to the inner lining became brittle and cracked.
My thought is if the inner lining has become brittle and about to crack, the air pressure would have burst the brittle inner lining as soon as the tank is opened.
But you did not cut it open to confirm your suspicion, did you? What a pity!

Had a Miflex BC hose, cut it open. I can't be sure how new it is but certainly less than 4 years, looks fine although suspect it might leak a bit now:

I had 3 braided hoses leak on different occasions, none was during dive trip.
They are between 3 to 5 years old. 2 Taiwanese brand from local shop, 1 from DGX. None are Miflex.
I have a few Miflex too, they are still good, the oldest is about 6 years old.
I only dive 2 to 3 times a year, the leaks were found when I did gear check before dive trip.

This thread got me worry. I still have 1 miflex LP used for bungee backup on double rig. 1 DGX LP used for bungee backup for single rig. 1 HP used for single rig SPG. I haven't had problem, but I do worry. Rubber still seem to be the safe way to go

Put it in a oven at ~50C or something hot for couple of hrs to see if its harden and crack. But be careful because it might emit toxic fume/gas.

Good idea, I'll do that and report back.

Me too, I have rubber hoses that must be coming on 15 years old.

It's baking as I type.

The hose melted. What I'm going to do is leave a section out on the sun, it's summer here and baking hot, cool it down, bake in the sun some more over a week and see what happens. I'll post back my findings.

And we are baking our hoses because----?
