Mine has MFX 2009 as well. They came with my AL reg set.

I also have Miflex hoses, regulator and HP. They are marked as MFX 2006.

My oldest set is 2012. I am not home now so cannot check. I do know for certain they are etched Miflex, not MFX, so, I wonder if there is a difference in the construction that accompanies the change from stamped MFX to laser etched Miflex? Hmmmm, v-e-rr-y interesting!

Had a Miflex BC hose, cut it open. I can't be sure how new it is but certainly less than 4 years, looks fine although suspect it might leak a bit now:

When I see the photos above, the pix you've previously posted, and the pictures of the hoses that started this issue, it makes me wonder why the hoses that caused the failure (for Andy's student in the Philippines) did not have a massive leak coming through the fabric.

Could be the second hose covering will contain the 140 psi ...

Good point, the black nylon jacket is certainly not air tight, the inner white material jacket doesn't look to be air tight either. I'm away today but will try and test the white jacket in the next day or so.

Could be, to be honest I don't know how strong 140 psi is...

If that is the case, I would stop using any allegedly Miflex hoses designated MFX stamping until Miflex responds. At the same time, I would continue to use with confidence the laser etched Miflex hoses of more recent manufacture.

I return to (one of) my question, if we have at our disposal, a degraded hose, will it kink?

James

Yes, it would appear that hoses manufactured after around 2009 were changed as noted by the etching rather than the "older" version which were stamped. I don't have any degraded hoses so cannot test kinking. I'll see if I can get that info.

The hose melted. What I'm going to do is leave a section out on the sun, it's summer here and baking hot, cool it down, bake in the sun some more over a week and see what happens. I'll post back my findings.
You probably set the temp of the oven too high. Even the cheap PE, PVC and PS can withstand temp up to around 70C.
Looking forward to your experimental result. good on you.

i notice that several websites proclaim that all scuba hoses should be replaced every five years. That being the case, all of your hoses are expired nearly twice.

We suggest replacing all SCUBA hoses every five years or 500 dives, whichever comes first.

Is there Miflex and Miflex 2?

Then my rubber hoses are obsolete too...
