I’m looking for an alternative to the $24 rite in the rain pencil unless it’s worth it, but something better than a golf pencil. What do you use underwater?

Shoot, I forgot all about those. I haven’t used them since I was a kid. I want to be able to take notes in case there’s something important on the dive briefing, entrance/exit compass bearing, or be able to better communicate with my wife since we are both new to diving. Thanks.I don't need to take notes anymore, but when I did, the "stacking point pencils" were my favorite. Seemed to last me very long, and were super cheap by the box.
Nice, that should get me started. Thanks for the links too. But ya a beer if we ever meet. The rite-in-the-rain pencil is nice, but unnecessary.
The problem with a golf pencil is the wood, plus the thin lead.
Get an artist's solid graphite pencil maybe 4B or 6B, cut it in half, tie some thin bungee to the end, shrink wrap it for strength and to keep your fingers clean, and sharpen it.
Or buy the same thing: https://www.amazon.com/Storm-Replacement-Graphite-Pencil-Diving/dp/B008XB3Z6O/ or Underwater Writing Tool w/Cap and Bungee or Graphite Pencil for slates w/ coiled laynard and Eraser! , Piranha Dive Shop |. If you want a mechnaical pencil, the tried-and-true one is the AquaPencil. But the best deal is probably Graphite Lead Pencil with 3 feet 1/8.
Maybe not, but my link in post #4 has that pencil much cheaper!https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009K2NG3C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
You won't find anything nicer.
