question .. why would changing water activation on/off after the computer is on, have anything to do with battery life?

None of the computers that I've seen have an on/off switch for the computer itself
well the mosquito manual said it did... i'm assuming for the D4 as well...

maybe it's like that teeny light on your DVD player that says it's "plugged in" even when it's "off"... it's not entirely "off" because there's power and something - and trust me it's not elves, i asked sony - is powering that light...

i guess by disengaging the little current of electricity that runs through the water sensors you save a teeny bit of pwer... i still wouldn't know as 1) i did not make the computer, and 2) i never allowed my mosquito to run dry on batteries - i changed it after 2 years when it gave me a batt warning, but i would assume it was good for a few more dives (maybe another few weeks or months?)

it doesn't turn the unit "off", the watch and other functions remain functional - it's just that the water activation sensors don't engage when you sweat a wee bit...

.. it shuts the computer off when you select it?
aha! now i see where we're getting confused...

no it does not tun the computer off... it turns "dive mode" to "off"... the watch remains functional...

and here i thought i had the wonder d4 that didn't get sent to the US hehehehehe

no... relax... there's just 1 D4...

db thought i meant that i could shut the whole computer off - as in no display, dead-until-you-raise-it mode...

but i clarified what the "off" dive mode meant...

PS
then again i just realized you're in oil-rich qatar... i'll sell you my one-of-a-kind D4 for just $15000... includes shipping... and manual... and extra screen protector...

what is that then??
On my D4 as well... Only Air, Nitrox, and Free....

yeah, although they have natural gas rather than oil... BTW, wreck dives on the abandoned off-shore oil rigs are awesome :D

then why does my D4 have an off???

seriously!

Jag

Very weird. I'm cycling through the dive options right now as I type and no off mode. I can switch the whole computer to "watch" but nothing on the dive menu says off... only "air, nitrox, and free". I doubt suunto made two versions of the d4... very odd.
