This is my Malibu II on Cape Cod Bay. Tons of awesome Kayak diving along the Bay. There is an LDS that rents Kayaks in Hyannis.

I picked up a rental ocean drifter last November but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Currently taking advantage of the bad weather to add some accessories and build a rack for my truck.

How far out does everyone go? Are there any wrecks reachable with a kayak?

I've only been out 2 times and both times were close to shore where it would have only been a long surface swim. But I'd go out aways if the weather was decent. Kayakers paddle out to Isle of Shoals from Portsmouth which is about 7 miles, 14 round trip, no problem for a good sea kayaker in calm conditions. But in a dive boat which paddles kinda like a barge, I figure a few miles up or down the coast maybe, and not too far out. But good enough range for exploring and making a day of it

All right! The weather looks great for Sunday and the chances are good that I may be free. Would anyone be interested in taking his kayak for a spin? I was thinking of scouting around Cape Ann, but am open to suggestions.

Narrowed down my search to a Malibu Kayak "Pro2 Tandem". This way I can use it for both diving and excursions with my daughter/friends. Called the kayak shop today and they are closed for the next couple of weeks.

Doesn't look like I'll get to go out this weekend, but soon.

How about a kayak dive on Sunday (5/7) at Cape Ann? Anybody?

It looks like Scuba Board is not such a great place to get in touch with buddies with kayaks. There aren't that many folks here doing this and the topics get pushed down way to fast to get noticed (people seem to like the "My first drysuit" type chat more).

So, let's try to put together a e-mail list for people interested in kayak dives. Could everybody interested please PM me the following:

I will put together a comp of all the info and share it with the group which forms (unless you ask me otherwise).

I've been having trouble finding a store that sells the Malibu Pro2 Tandem. Was ready to make the trip north to ME this past weekend but they don't have any in stock. I'm told that they are on order and expected this month.

Also was looking around for a rental shop to tide me over until I can get my own. Haven't found anyone that rents north of Boston. Can anyone recomend a place?

Thanks Mark.

I added you to the list (so far 3 kayak divers). Hope you get your boat ready for June :-)

There are quite a few sites I am thinking of trying by kayak this summer. For
example, the following are an easy paddle from shore (0.5-1.2 miles) around Cape
Ann:

Paddock Rock
Kettle Island
Egg Rock (from Nahant)
Rockport Breakwater / Charles Heigh Wreck (done this by kayak - very nice)
Braces Cove
Hallibut Point
Salt Island
Chester Polling (only 0.6 miles from shore, but heavy traffic)

All of these are great to do by kayak at leisurely pace. I have the coodinates in my GPS, so navigation is not a problem even with submerged sites.

All right, the mailing list has been set up at http:// + groups.yahoo.com/group/ + nekayakdivers/
