Wow, looks like some interest in kayak diving brewing on this forum. Hold on there and perhaps we can get together in spring to explore some new sites.

Getting 8 or 10 divers together for some kayak diving and an "inaccessable" island cookout could make for a really good time!

The one thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to pack a BBQ on a yak. :eat

I always wanted to do Egg rock. The question is, is there any place to "park" a kayak there or is it too rocky?

Can't help on that question but just wanted to register my interest in the discussion. I actually live in Philadelphia but took David Swain's course a few years ago and then bought a kayak from him. Kayak diving is absolutely the way to go -- makes you never want to deal with entries or surface swims again.

Mark Theobald's book is excellent. I got it when it first came out in paperback.

I've dived off it a couple times while on vacation in Block Island and Downeast Maine. Having dived Cape Ann a long time ago, it always seemed tailor-made for kayak diving. Keep me on the list for next spring if there's a plan brewing. I'd love to drive up for a weekend with kayak and gear in tow.

Why bring one when you can cook a perfectly good clambake on a hole in the sand covered with seaweed?

Now there is a thinker! Excellent idea...

Can we come up with a list of dive shops that rent divable kayaks. I would like to try a couple of different models out before purchasing if possible.

There is one dive shop in RI (Ocean State scuba, if I recall correctly), which rents kayaks. Generally though, most diveshops in the area don't rent yaks. However, there is a handful of kayaking stores, which rent various sit-on-top kayaks.

Try Ski Market, they have various sit on tops. The have multiple stores in the area.

Also Kittery Trading Post in Maine, just north of the NH ME border has a lot of sit on tops.

I hear New England Small Craft in Rowley may have some too.

Try this link for Ocean Kayak dealers.

Was in Ski Mart yesterday looking at kayaks :D Just curious what others have and what you like and dislike about it. So far I have moved away from any type of inflatable kayak due to fear of some honery fisherman slashing it while I was under.
Liking the looks of Ocean Kayaks but there are many out there to consider.

Yes there are many. ocean kayak seems rather popular at the SkiMarts/REi's/etc.

easily accessable dry-hatch and tank well are important features as well as "tiedowns" (to strap you equipment to while removing/changing/tankswap/etc. would stink an aweful lot if your weight belt slipped out of your hand, or worse your tank...)
