Hey, I am considering getting a SP MK25/s600 from leisurepro. Ive read many reviews on leisurepro, as well as scubapro. I just wanted to know if anyone has ever bought a SP reg from LP and how they get it annually serviced.
From what i understand from the LP website, you can send the reg back to them for service each year for free parts warranty, but i think thats kind of a hassle.
On the other hand, my LDS says that all you need is the little warranty card that comes with the reg to get it serviced. I however don't know if LPs regs come with the card.

.. or .. I could just say screw it and pay the ~$460~ the LDS wants for it (including the 10% off)..

please help meeeeee! :) :) :)

A buddy of mine bought that exact same regulator from Leisure Pro and learned his lesson the hard way. Leisure Pro is not an authorized dealer of Scuba Pro (or just about anything else). What that means for you is that you won't be getting that wonderful little warranty card with your regulator and the only way you can get free parts is to return it to them for service every year. My buddy actually got photocopied documentation for his regulator and his Suunto Cobra that he bought at the same time. He never returned it to LP for service but finally wised up and took it to one of the local shops for service to get stuck with the huge parts bill since his reg isn't covered under warranty. I have no idea how good LP is at returning service orders but I can't imagine they're in too much hurry to get your reg back since they've already gotten their money from you.

My advice is to bite the bullet and go to your LDS for the really important, life-saving purchases or anything you need extra help picking out. The savings in maintenance cost over the life span of a good regulator plus knowing who to take it to and ***** if they didn't set it up properly (again no guarantee from LP) and who to yell at if you have problems will more than make up for the additional cost of buying locally.

Some people harp about always buying and supporting your LDS for all your purchases and I agree with that to a certain extent. If you have a good shop in your area (as I am lucky enough to), it's only fair to buy the majority of your gear from them and vote for good service with your dollar. That being said I buy stuff from Leisure Pro all the time whenever it's something that my LDS doesn't have or will take too long to order or I know exactly what I want and I just want a cheap price on it and it doesn't require warranty (fins are a good example).

Parts for your regulator are very, very cheap. It's ridiculously inexpensive. The great cost comes in cleaning and bench testing your reg.

That's how ScubaPro can get away with giving "free parts for life".

For what you save in buying your reg. at LeisurePro you can service your reg. for a lifetime sans the "free" parts-and extra 4 bucks in cost.

There are so many places that service regs. You just ship them to them-e.g. DiverDirect.

I fail to see why anyone would buy a ScubaPro reg. They make good stuff but they cost a fortune. They also practice extreme price control practices. They have been sued on this issue a number of times. They force their resellers to maintain an elevated price to project a greater perceived quality i.e. "You get what you pay for".

It is the price floor that creates the opportunity for places like LeisurePro to make a profit.

I bought a Jetstream from LeisurePro and it's great. It did not come with a warranty card. Does that mean it doesn't work? It just means I saved a lot.

If you buy from LP, you save roughly $120 after shipping...don't forget that the LDS adds sales taxes...

I thought everyone wanted the Apeks ATX50 or some sort?

Many regs are great to dive with...I bought my Oceanic Delta III/CDX5 reg from LP and it works quite nicely.

I emailed them, and they said that it would be 39.99 for a reg service, and they would have it back to me in 2 weeks. Okay.. so it wouldn't take that long at the LDS.. but it would be 5 dollars more to get it serviced, and i would still be out that extra 120.. So.. as im a poor high school student, im gonna go ahead and take my chances with LP this time around..
Any other leisure pro or scuba pro comments are welcome.. good or bad.. help a brother out..
Thanks!
Matt

I bought 2 new regs from LP about 1½ years ago. As much as I would've like to have bought them from my LDS, I just couldn't afford it. The markup they have locally is just too high (in some cases almost triple what LP charges). I saved over $400. I took them to the LDS for the annual service and paid to have them done. Had I bought them from the LDS in the first place - I couldve had them service it for free for 2 years. With what I saved I'll be able to have both regs serviced for 4 years.

I would love to give my LDS every last penny I spend on gear- but with the insane amount of markup its just not feasible.

You can order from Scubastore and get it with a warranty card. The cost is about $50 more than LP. I ordered two from them last year, one for my son, one for my wife. Arrived in three days.

Have you tried it with your LDS? do they honor that warranty card? free part for annual service with LDS? Or the warranty card only valid withiin the country where the retailer is. I'm confused about the warranty too

scubatoys carry Scubapro?

Before buying, you might want to look at some of the other regs on the market. For example, you can buy a Zeagle from Scubatoys who is an authorized Zeagle dealer and it will be under warrenty from Scubatoys and any Zeagle dealer (as long as you keep up the service routine). SP makes good regs but fact is there are plenty of good regs on the market. We, the dive community, need to start supporting those manufactures that support us with parts, service and reasonable prices.
