If you are looking at a different reg,
LP is an authorize dealer of Zeagle, Mares, Tusa, Cressi, Oceanic, Aeris, XS Scuba. Full warranty.

I bring my reg to Leisurepro for service, and have not had an issue. If you are do not wait 2 weeks, I think Scubatoys will service any reg, and ship it back to you for 50 dollars and it will take a week.

scubatoys carry Scubapro?

reubencahn mentioned scubastore but I'm not familiar with them. Last time I looked scubatoys didn't have scubapro.

My advice is to bite the bullet and go to your LDS for the really important, life-saving purchases or anything you need extra help picking out.
Does your LDS sell pacemakers? Defibrillators? Or are we still talking about regulators?

The savings in maintenance cost over the life span of a good regulator plus knowing who to take it to and ***** if they didn't set it up properly (again no guarantee from LP) and who to yell at if you have problems will more than make up for the additional cost of buying locally.
Leisurepro gives a store warranty that matches the manufacturer's warranty with gray market purchases.

Is properly "setting up" regulators a problem that arises often?

If you have a good shop in your area (as I am lucky enough to), it's only fair to buy the majority of your gear from them and vote for good service with your dollar. That being said I buy stuff from Leisure Pro all the time whenever it's something that my LDS doesn't have or will take too long to order or I know exactly what I want and I just want a cheap price on it and it doesn't require warranty (fins are a good example).
So if I know exactly what I want and I want it at a cheap price, then it is "fair" to buy it from Leisurepro? That I can agree with.

My two cents...

I could have brought my reg set (apeks XTX200) from a local dealer - at twice the price I got it for online (with no manufacturers warranty, because they're not a dealer)

I didn't have to think too hard about it

I purchased most of my wifes equipment when she got certified a number of years ago from LP and so far received very good service from them. I had both our reg setups serviced at our LDS locally. The bill was almost $100 each by the time they were done with them. I take very good care of the gear we use so I was at a loss on why the costs were so much. Basically it is the only shop around for several hundred miles in any direction. I plan on sending them to LP or another service center for the next service period. I would like to purchase more from this LDS just to support the shop, but I can't see paying the huge difference in price that they charge. The owner once told me that I need to "keep my money locally" I told him he had it half right, just the keep my money part........

I miss read it, thanks cruiser.

Scubastore is a European store selling in the US via internet and mail So it is gray market technically. You are buying from Europe, and importing it to the US.

One thing to keep in mind is that with the SP warranty, if you forget to get it serviced every year, then the next time you get it serviced, you have to pay for labour AND parts to "get the warranty back". I've done this a couple of times now. The way that it works out is if you forget one year, you end up paying twice as much - about the same as if you just pay for the labour every year. In effect, getting it serviced every year with the free parts ends up costing you about the same as if you get it serviced every other year, without the free parts. In other words, the "free" parts really ain't that free - but your reg is serviced every year rather than every 2 years.

But for only $120 price difference - I'd be inclined to buy from the LDS - just so I had someone to lean on if I had problems. It's also just nice having the local guy around.

Well I am looking for gear now. The regs I like is the Aqualung Titin(sp). The LDS wants $330 for the first and second stage only. LP has it listed for $140. I find a 30 day warrenty and good feelings with the LDS not worth $190 one Just one item. This makes me wonder how much overpricing is out there. I work in manufacturing and 100% markup is normal from manufacture cost to Distro and Disto to retail, But over %200 is too much. I don't like the idea that becaues I and am america I have to pay two to 3 times the price for an item.

Don't be Japanese then. Japanese divers buy in America for the same reason Americans buy from Europe: 1/2 to 1/3 the price. (ANd they suffer from the same warranty hickups trying to get US bought regs serviced in Japan.)

The prices in Japan make US prices look dirt cheap. And a lot of the gear is made in Japan, even.

Scubastore shipped my order faster than most US places do.

This is my point exactly! This is the ending phases of the global economy. The manufactures have been in it for a long time(look at what is made in China). Now with the internet consumers will start to demand same world pricing. The draining of America is almost over, the ability to make something in china for a buck and selling it in the USA for $100 or more is almost over. Places like LP are taking advantage of the fact that the CEO of Aqualung still have old ideas of how things work. Japan mat be nexthttp://www.scubaboard.com/forums/images/smilies/Standard%20Smiles/04.gif
