Exactly, what do you know. Do you have 100 cave dives yet this year? Slacker.
not this year.. I am in the desert, and when I have been diving it that weird tasting salt water stuff and reefs...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a sudden NDA and settlement was procured and the entire YT discussion just vanishes. That would be par for course in good ol 'Merica.

Oh, and not having been in caves the last year, as in the least amount in 20 years, I wouldn't even jump in and start doing gear removal CCR (or even OC) major restriction dives until I had done a dozen dives + getting back into it all.

What did I say that was defamatory?
Based on this one situation where the facts are not fully known, you said “In a true emergency seems DAN is pretty useless”. As you have no real proof to back that up, it could be viewed as somewhat defamatory.

I’m honestly amazed at how quick some are to jump to conclusions before we know all of the facts. If it turns out that DAN did not live up to their obligations, then I’m all for sticking it to them - but we don’t know that at this point.

Hopefully, we get the follow up to sort this out so all can benefit from a better understanding how DAN membership and insurance works in a true emergency when needed… and DAN makes any necessary changes if this incident does prove shortcomings in their processes.

Ahh. That’s fair criticism, and in thinking about I do believe you are correct. I retract that statement until further facts come out, if it ever does.

I think I'll read up on Dive Assure. What Woody went through is exactly the situation that I thought I was protected against with DAN. This is troubling.

There’s other insurances. According to DANs policy they do not cover evacs that they do not arrange.
Their FAQ is not as absolute:

But it does seem far easier/less financially risky if they coordinate (assuming they can do so in a timely fashion - which seems to be the issue in this situation):

100 cave dives at Full cave level of certification is not a baseline level of experience that I would consider really enough for ccr cave thru major restrictions with gear removal. But what do I know...
It was not a major restriction....it is a very wide passage that gets shallow top-to-bottom.

Dive Assure won't insure me, I am over their age limit. Also, they only insure if you are NOT in your home country.

what was not a major restriction? You think i was talking about a specific one? I wasn't.
