As a WA State resident that still dives locally.....Dan is the no brainer for sure.

Also, when I do travel, sometimes it can be remote with language barrier issues and I feel that any needed "local" support may respond better and have less concerns for "reimbursement" when they see and hear that I am covered by DAN rather than the less known provider.

On the issue of age, I'm only 70.....and who knows what the next 5 or 10 years will bring, but I still am confident that DAN will be the better option. In looking on the DAN site I can see that they provide dive accident insurance for divers over the age of 70.......but I can't seem to find any information regarding what age that DAN coverage may no longer be available.

I was recently trying to find out the age limit for DAN insurance, only to end up having to email DAN to find out. Seems they will insure up to age 80, but with the provision that if you want the insurance after that age it is just as simple as asking for an exemption letter. Meanwhile I had asked for quotes from Dive Assure (I'm in Canada btw). Here is what they quoted for dive accident insurance (outside of Canada & the USA, age limit is 75 years old):

1. For an annual diving accident program covering diving accidents, chamber, evacuation, and hospitalization following a diving accident, for coverage outside the U.S., the options are:‎
Program: Gold
Premium: $196.20USD
Program: Platinum
Premium: $ 250.20USD

Meanwhile for DAN it was $80CAD (DAN Enhanced membership) + $150CAD (Guardian Coverage) pp.

The travel insurance for myself (67F) and my hubby (74M) - the premiums they quoted were ridiculous. We were able to purchase Manulife annual multi-trip travel insurance (medical/trip cancellation/interruption/etc) through Costco for less than half the price Dive Assure quoted us (and in CAD vs USD).

Dive Assure will only cover up to your certification limit. so if you are diving in the 100ft to 130ft range with AOW or below 330ft/100m with trimix, you are not covered.

Looks to me like DAN worldwide has a similar limitation, but DAN USA does not. Small print. Sigh.

That is actually a very good reason to go with DAN (US) - thank you. I am only certified to 18m (OW). I could foresee a situation in which I exercise very poor judgement and go deeper to be with a group. I hope I wouldn’t, but it would be good to be insured if I did.

DAN World might vary by country, but as a Canadian I see

Covered Diving Accident means an Accident, Decompression Illness (DCI), or any Injury that results from a Covered Dive,
regardless of the depth. For a Diving Student, Covered Diving Accident means an Accident, DCI, or any In-Water Accident that
results from a Covered Dive to the student training depth limit assigned by the training agency under which an entry level diving
certification for open circuit scuba or breath-hold diving is being earned.
Italics are mine, but that is the only place "depth" occurs in this certificate of insurance.

I am not a lawyer or insurance professional.

Just a point of clarification, the student coverage is only available to non-certified students in an openwater class. Once someone is certified they can no longer be on the student plan.

The student plan is also free.

DAN world wide covers divers with OW to the recreational depth limit of 40m

I emailed them and asked and posted their reply on this board.

Where is the reply?

You know there is a search function? Use and and type what you are looking for. Thats how I found my earlier posting about this.

Best with this thread you read it from page 1 all the way through.

also others have mentioned this not just me.... but I emailed DAN as I don't depend on internet advice.
