There are at least 3 dive operators on Vancouver Island with elevators. It's very nice for divers and speeds up retrieval for the dive boat as well. Pretty useful for the dynamic water conditions up there.
I had seen a picture of one awhile back that was used by divers at the-most-wonderful-dive-spot-in-all-the-world, a place I would dearly love to visit someday if I can get more money and get up to Port Hardy. Who else runs them? At present, day boat trips on the southeast third of the island would be a lot more feasible for me to hope for.

Hello Diving Community!

I am new to diving (currently 1x dive away from receiving my open water certification) and I'm currently dealing with an injury that is confusing me.

6 days ago I did 3 dives (~30 minutes each, maximum 45' depth, 64 degrees F water temperature) off the coast of Southern California. Dives went well no issues to report during the dives themselves.

My fins are Tusa Hyflex (USA 10-14 size) and by booties are Cressi 5mm dive boots (size 13). I am a size 13 shoe (US).

16 hours after my last dive I wake up with an immense amount of pain in the balls of both of my feet. Incredibly tender, sore, swollen, very difficult to walk. I have since developed lots of bruising, on both feet.

The pain has been present for 5-6 days, I've noticed it reducing slightly. A podiatrist took an X-Ray, nothing is broken, and they think I have turf toe. Others have mentioned fin foot, allergic reaction, etc.

I am looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience and if so what was the root cause / contributing factors for this.

Really appreciate any and all ideas / guidance.

Thank you!

There's a dive boat in Canada that has an elevator platform on the back. It seems like it would be really nice if dive boats here had that.
There are four operating in the US with elevators that I am currently aware of.

Myself ( belowthegrade.com ) on the Ho-Hum in the Great Lakes
Rusty ( explorercapemay.com ) on Explorer 2.0 in New Jersey
And Rusty's old boat, the original Explorer is operating out of Jacksonville, FL. I don't know the name of the company that purchased it
JT ( capt-jt.com ) runs the Under Pressure out of Hatteras NC

Diver elevators exist in the USA, they just aren't common.

Have you looked into gout? I know it is a stretch, but I am speaking from personal experience.

My attempt to run in very tight shoes resulted in a gout flare up. That's how I found out that I had gout. X-rays won't reveal anything, cold water will make the pain worse. Swelling and tenderness will continue for some time.
