Years ago a friend broke his foot climbing the ladder of a dive boat. Round rungs on a fin on ladder. To this today he can’t tell me why he decided to take his fins off before climbing the ladder. The captain was even telling everyone to leave their fins on. He had soft soled boots. After that, he got hard soled boots.

I have gone to these for everything except for the pool. Not many divers know about them.

They have been discussed on ScubaBaord for at least 6 years. You are late to the party.

That does not mean that the OP knows about them. Some people here on Scubaboard try to help other people. Some others just like to make snarky comments.

Seems like hard soled boots may be the way to go for me then! Hope your friend is doing okay.

Really appreciate everyone joining the conversation here.

Seems like it could be a combination of soft-soled boots and improper finning technique.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

This is super common with dry suit divers. Some suits have a neoprene sock for the foot and you must wear boots. One buddy of mine wears Van's high-top sneakers.
