I dont see that the big deal is about the no stop gas switches. Its for the apprentice tech class. Your not a tech diver yet, so its a tool that you can use to get use to doing gas switches, without betting your life on it. Just a training tool.

I agree. It is a good idea to teach the process before using live gases, at least at their TOD. What I'm questioning is how it's being sold.

Seems to be a big waste/borderline idiotic to me. To get a cert card that allows you to train. LOL

(Apprentice Tec level) or even worse. Take a gas that can kill you at depth for no real reason. So yea...you are betting your life on it.

:D

Playing devil's advocate here. This is going to start a s*** storm, but what would you call GUE-F? It's not a technical diving class, it doesn't let you do anything beyond what you were already certified to do, and you can't move on to GUE technical courses until you get a "tech" pass. All it does is lay a foundation that the other GUE courses are built on. While a different approach, I think that's what the PADI apprentice tec level is all about.

I'm going to put my helmet on now.

DIR-F doesn't certify you to take a gas that can kill you at depth.

It teaches fundamental dive skills. Propulsion, trim, gas shares..etc etc

PADI's class (as per there website)

You'll learn to make gas switch, extended no-decompression dives using air and enriched air to 40 metres/130 feet

Doesn't sound like they are anything the same to me.

Thats why I have a PADI DIR Scuba Diver Patch. PADI = GUE ;)

But it's building technical diving fundamentals. Switching gases is a fundamental skill. Maybe not a GUE-F skill, but for OC technical diving you will be doing a lot of it, and it is arguably the most dangerous. I'm not saying I agree with the course content, the teaching philosophy, or anything else that DSAT does but it is their own way of introducing fundamental technical diving skills without an overhead.

Basic 40% nitrox can kill you at recreational depth too. This just adds one more step on the way to tech diving. Its obvious you arent open to new ideas, or other possibilities or other points of view. If you dont like the class, dont take it.

I would hate to see how bad you would flame away if you knew that you could do an intro to tech diving with a min of 10 dives.

Gas switching is for technical diving. It has no use outside of it.

ergo...you don't need a class to be certified for it, when it has no use.

But maybe someone can use it for their Master Scuba Diver Badge.

Step back for one second....

You get a card (Apprentice Tec level)...what's it useful for?

If this class was sold as a workshop? would it have the same use/value?

No doubt. But you don't purposefully take it past your MOD, do you?

LOL...I can see the class for what it is, but all you heard was a big wooooooshing sound
