So you are saying that I could go down with say 32% to 110ft, stay for say 25 minutes, then switch to a higher O2 gas and somehow extend my bottom time (and not tox)?

This is a PADI course?

not BOTTOM time, DIVE time. iow you could then come up to 70' and switch to 50% and dive for some extended period of time which you otherwise couldn't do. of course, there needs to be something to see at 70' otherwise limited benefit :-)

the card lets you get up to 60%

Wut?

You don't need 50% to come up to 70 and continue diving for some extended period of time. You can do that perfectly well on backgas. The whole point of accelerated deco is to get out of the water sooner. If you plan to stay longer, you have no need for deco gases.

In piecemeal, this class doesn't make much sense. Well, I guess it does. It allows them to sell two classes instead of one. ;)

But if you do it on backgas then you might hit GASP!!! DECO!!!!!!!!!

Cant be having that now can we ?? :D

I was thinking about that. It seems like they're getting bit in the butt by their 'no stop diving' philosophy, so they're calling stage decompression "dive time extension."

I'm not really dead.

I understand that part, which is why "killed" is in quotes. I couldn't initially tell whether you violated the MOD of one of your decompression gases, or just deviated from your schedule.

it was the second switch. iow we were supposed to go back to back gas.

Sounds like he went to a (simulated) richer mix rather than to a back-gas break. In other words: (simulated) MOD violation. :tox:

EDIT: too bad, we need a toxing diver emoticon. I guess this is close enough :hyper:

I like the idea of having my slates, whether my plan is memorized or not. We have all had brain farts in our every day lifes, where we forget the most basic info that we could recite over and over again in our sleep, however at one moment in time, that piece on info escapes us. I dont want to have a moment like that happen to me at depth. Thats just me. I do like having a green hose on my 100% bottle, and I want to get another color for my deep deco gas, just to make it more clear what gas I am on. I also have a green face plate for my O2 bottle second stage. One further step that I have seen ,and I plan to start using, is to put a piece of tape on the second stage, on the piece that rests against the chin, with the gas markings on it as well. That way I am reading the gas content as the reg is going in my mouth.

Someone mention about all you need is MOD and mix in the tank, I think that having your stages marked with your name or initials is a good idea, incase you do stage them. I want to pick up my own bottle on the way out. These markings can be on bottom, so not to clutter up the rest of the bottle. Just my .02 on that.

I dont see that the big deal is about the no stop gas switches. Its for the apprentice tech class. Your not a tech diver yet, so its a tool that you can use to get use to doing gas switches, without betting your life on it. Just a training tool.
