Simon,
You probably already know, living in Japan, but for everyone else, Tabata/TUSA manufactures several Scubapro regs under license for branding under their own label. Hence, the silly splined nut.
Not all SP regs, but some. That makes TUSA a great deal for folks that know that in many cases they're really getting a SP reg, often at a lower price.

Yes, hence my "hmmm" it seems strange that quite possibly they made the splined nuts for the Japanese G250s but use (?) a different one, the same as the -250-106 ones on their regs..I'm of course just hypothesizing.

Will post your reg in about 30 mins, sorry for the delay, been crazy busy.

No worries, amigo. :callme:

Not bashing SP as I own many of their regs but while we're on the topic I also find it strange that their technical marketed G260 has a pin which must be removed in order to take off the face plate, I thought the ability to remove a face plate underwater was important to tech divers (?)

I'm not a tech diver and don't play one on TV so I could well be mistaken.

I am not a tech diver either, but was told you just remove the pin and leave it off. What gets me is that if you remove the cover off the Apeks you just have the plastic cage and then the diaphragm. On some Scubapro models you have multiple parts. I can't see how a diver in a silt out could clean the second stage by touch alone with all the little bits and pieces like the translucent friction ring. Then again I wonder how often does this need to be done.

It is interesting to me that the Halcyon branded G250V did away with that splined jam nut and use a "normal" nut instead, I can only assume they thought it was silly too. Unfortunately, they do not fit the G250 but if I had any G250Vs I'd swap the splined nut for a Halcyon one. YMMV.
Atomic jam nut fits the 250

That translucent friction ring is captured, in the G260. One reason to prefer it over other ScubaPro 2nd stages, for technical diving.

Excited...

Are they "normal" nuts?

Those, you use them to get rid of the “comfort swivel” I used a G250 nut in its place once, until the atomic part came in. Chrome plater brass, the M1nut was nice as it had heat exchanger fins but the last time I ordered one to replace the comfort thing on my ST1 it came as a big solid ring with M1 heavily stamped in it rather than the fins.

My first reg set was Apeks ATX40s on a DS4 1st stage. Almost 300 dives later I bought an Apeks TX50 set hanging off a DST 1st, only because DRIS had a deal on them I could not resist. Both sets were converted to DIN. The 40s are on an AL40 now.

These have performed flawlessly for me, warm water and cold, salt water and fresh.

Hard to go wrong with Apeks as a first set.
