You have to soak your gear as well, a 2nd stage isn’t a sealed system and saltwater attacka the knob from both sides of the oring

Wont running the hose on the knob push water into the crevices/ sides of the knob? Anyway i do both.

I usually soake the 2nd stages, spg and inflator hoses in a tub, with the 1st stage hanging out

Also read somewhere some put vinegar on the tub? Were a 100% salt water btw

What! Why? Vinegar will eat at the chrome plating

A deco reg sits in saltwater unused for quite a while (more than backgas)
This means there is a lot of saltwater inside the barrel, a rinse (through the mouthpiece) will help, but at some point you need to soak it overnight
Easiest way is to just take the 2nd off t he hose and soak it overnight it a bowl of water

Again, the threads aren’t tge sealing surface, the inside of the barrel against the oring is

My thoughts exactly on the vinegar tub.

Soak overnight is a thing? Hmmm i should try that. Longest soak was 1hr.. i forgot about it … normally 5-10mins

Rinse through the mouthpiece.? Wont soaking in a tub be the same?

I use Salt Off or Salt Away or similar products diluted for regulator soaking post dive and especially post trip. I keep some in a spray bottle for use during a trip.

That air barrel is sort of ugly. I would replace it, assuming you can get parts for Apeks. And want to keep the regulator in service.

Rinse through the mouthpiece.?
After a dive/on repetitive daily diving just rinse through the mouthpiece (and from outside) is easier — if your reg is already pristine and has the chrome that protects it

If you have chrome loss, then soak overnight

At the end of a trip/week of diving… soak overnight, maybe even twice

I prefer soak anyways

Yeah i was thinking of replacing it… i just have a feeling the overhaul wont last as long if the o ring was against that kind of surface. Imagine turning the knob and the oring rubbing on that surface…. I think i saw a barrel/spindle in a store somewhere

Look at the cross-section diagrams here to see what I mean

second with adjustment knob, understanding the mechanism.

Ok soak overnight it is 😂

Have a good look at the seat crown(AP2033).
I have to replace it( tiny crack) once because of annoying leak. I couldn't do anything to stop it until I took a good look at the seat crown with an magnifying glass!!
