I have the Devils throat t-shirt, but will go again if there are people that feel the need for the Throat and have to go. As a newish diver, many years ago I was passed, in the throat, by a rather freaked out woman
. On the way past she kicked off my mask and kicked me pretty hard in the head a couple of times:shocked2:. I had my camera, it was dark, it was silty from her kicking. I found the mask in the sand but had no way to clear it till outside along the wall. I could see the light at the end so I kept kicking till out along the wall and cleared my mask. Roberto the DM was wide eyed and laughing at me once he figured out what had happened. We had pre-arranged the divers order and Roberto knew she passed me when we got outside along the wall. I was pissed and and came up with all kinds of new UW hand signals. Roberto literally gave me an underwater pat on the back. At the time, All I knew was that everything was blurry with my mask flooded. I just figured as long as I had air I was doing good. I had some words for this woman on the surface. She was very apologetic but I was still miffed at her. I was happy my original certifying OW DM had trained us to remove our mask and look around when getting certified. It may be blurry but you can still see. No need to freak and bolt to the surface. Try it some time. You never know when you might lose your mask or it have forcefully removed in a swim through. It was a character builder that I can laugh about now...
PezLeon-eater, Okay you made me look... I think Punta Sur Sur has been called that long before you or I ever dove there. I have it in my 1st log book as South Point South on 04-02-01. Punta Sur Sur is Spanish for South point South. I remember not knowing what Punta Sur Sur meant and when I asked, I was told South Point South was the gringo name. On that day in 01 with Aldora divers, Jorge Marin was the DM, Angel was Captain. I also have logged that I chummed the water. I lost my breakfast from the rather large wave action and losing sight of the boat on the drift line. I remember the dive well. I remember the little fish eating my breakfast. Seas where not to bad when we started but it was really a rockin' to get back in the boat after the dive. This was the 1st time I ever got sea sick. It can get pretty rough down there depending on the winds. We've been down there when there is no current and calm seas as well, just depends on the day. This is a great deep dive. Myself, I'm kind of partial to the Cathedral. Further south, Maracibo is an outstanding, advanced, deep dive as well. You can do an on boat SI and go to Maracibo shallows for the 2nd dive, weather permitting. I like to do that when on Aldora's big/fast boat, Felicity. I can't imagine doing these on anything but a 120 tank. You will most likely be consulting the nitrogen police with obvious close monitoring of your computer.
BTW, Paso de Cedral is Cedar Pass. Punta Tunich is Tunich Point... I wish I was diving with you and your son today. Hope you both have some great dives. Maybe we'll see ya'll in March again?
