Right. Though I would say I've had some good meals a La Mission too. Another off the beaten path that comes to mind would be Pescadaria San Carlos. And the chicken places on 30th? Those must be in a taxi zone outside of the square too?
Another great Cozumel eatery a bit off the tourists' beaten path is La Conchita del Caribe. It closes at 7 or 7:30, though.

Other true local favorites the non-Mex eater will enjoy: Burger King, Carls Jr., Dominos, Starbucks. Seriously, they’re always full.

Wow! Thank you, all great info.
Upon more active discussion, we may end up in Roatan at a hotel with a dive op that is not an all inclusive. Mexican type food is not an issue as much as I laid out originally. She just says she doesn't want beans and rice, breakfast lunch and dinner.

Not sure how Roatan checks your boxes. Security is much more of a concern, in my opinion. Beaches aren't that great except in West Bay. You'll find nothing like Devil's Throat. You won't have to worry about Mexican food, though.

I've never met a true beach lover that would be remotely satisfied with the sandbox by the sea that you find at hotels near town. Most of the time those sandboxes are nearly empty despite being part of a hotel with hundreds of guests.

Cozumel Palace definitely checks the hefty budget box. It's funny how so many in this forum will whine about a $5 pier fee or $10 taxi fare but an extra $200/nt is not a consideration.

What does that person consider to be "Mexican food"? Taco Bell fare? Tamales and tacos? Anything with beans and rice? Grilled octopus or dorado? If he or she is eating in town, there are pizza places, sushi restaurants, even a KFC (I think it is still there). There is plenty of "Gringo food" available on Cozumel.

This concern has been mostly diminished with clarification. Yes there are plenty of option. But unless they are all planning to go their separate ways for meals, it could be a drag for the rest of the group wanting to experience the local food to have options limited and having to check menus before. El Pique? Los Tacotales? Moros?
