The more i hear about DPVs the more I want to try one out. As anyone here tried them? If so what did you think? MY FEAR is that i would enjoy it to much and want to end up getting one of my own. (Man would my wife be upset) I know Sea-Doo puts one out but from what i can tell it looks like a kids toy. What other brands are out there?:jaws:

www.apollo-sports.co.jp/international.html is a link to the new APOLLO super scooter with a 16Km/10 mile range and a run time over 3.5 hours. This vehicle was developed by Apollo for the Japanese self defense forces. Sport versions, the new AV-2 ,with run times of 1.5 hours and ranges of 4.5 miles will be available this January

Rumor has it that a 2 hour runtime battery, no heavier than the stocker, is being developed for the X.........

Tobin

Haven't heard that rumor... that would be fantastic!... Though I have done 90 minute dives with my Short body. Rarely are we on the trigger at full speed the entire dive.

DO NOT TEST RIDE A SCOOTER UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY ONE!!!!!!!

You will sell your children into slavery to get one if you do ride and can't afford one right away.. A buddy of mine got one looked cool, he hounded me for 2 months to try one. I got week one day and hit the water with an DEMO X-Scooter... Game over, I bought one a few days later.... it's LIGHT ( Huge deal for me ) fast, maneuverable, easy to maintain. I like the fact that even if the motor compartment floods you have a bulkhead protecting that expensive battery and on top of that the motor can be rinsed with fresh water and it should not harm it.. I'd imagine you'd need to replace the electrical connectors and minor stuff like that but... beats buying or rebuilding a motor.

My true advice is save your money. Buy a NICE scooter.. I have my bias for the X but the Gavin, Mako and SS for most applications wouldn't be bad... I just like the lightness of mine when I've got all the rest of my gear on... SWEET! If you buy a nice one up front you'll never need to upgrade. I've watched others get the Seadoo, Apollo etc.. and they all ended up with a real one sometime in the future, or are making plans to do so.. that means they got a 300 - 1200 dollar scooter hanging out that they can't get their investment back out of.

Enjoy the dive....

By "Two Hour Battery" I mean 2 hours, full pitch trigger time, i.e. 2.3 times the current capacity........

an XL-Hull X-Scooter with the new batteries would have over 6hrs.

Let us know when it is available.
Ditto...

on second thought. I don't need to know.

But feel free to promote your scooter on every scooter thread on Scubaboard.

Anyone have an opinion on the Farallon MK7E, I can see where this one may have some limitations due to its size, but looks like it would be a great DPV

smmk7e.gif

Length: 42 inches (1.07 m)
Weight on land: 60 lbs. (27 kg) w/o battery; 85 lbs (39 kg) w/battery
Weight in water: 2 lbs. (1 kg)
Speed: 0 - 2.7 MPH (0 - 4.3 KPH), 2.4 Knots*
Range: 2.25 miles (3.6 km)*
Depth: tested to 400 FSW (122 MSW)
Body Material: .25 inch (6.5 mm) Aluminum
Color: Safety Orange / Black

The Mk7 comes complete with battery pack, 24-hour battery charger, riding saddle and user manual.

The Mk7 DPV is an excellent vehicle for short-range transit. While it does not have a standard speed variation capability, its 2.75 MPH (4.0 K/h) speed moves the diver comfortably yet briskly through the water.

The Mk7 is an excellent vehicle for wreck diving, certain search and recovery applications, exploration, inspections, and a wide variety of recreational diving applications.

The Mk 7-E with variable speed control that comes standard on the Mk8. For underwater applications requiring a smaller unit, a lower speed level and less travel distance, the Mk7-E fills the need. Its smaller size and lighter weight make the Mk7-E ideal in restricted environments.

Farallon U/W scooters are well constructed and very reliable.
