Have you tried to get warranty repair on your Stahlsac? I had a large Stahlsac bag that was damaged and my LDS where I bought it had to luck with warranty. Now I have a carry on Stahlsac and I sent in the form four days ago and have heard nothing back. I just sent and email. Do you have a telephone number for them that is working? All of the numbers that I try for either Stahlsac or Huish tell me they are not in service. TIAStahlsac dive bags have a limited lifetime warranty and they don't have scuba plastered all over the outside.
I have their Jamaican smuggler and it's a great bag, it's discontinued but you can still get them at a lot of dive shops and online. Stahlsac Jamaican Smuggler
Whatever you do, don't get a scuba specific logo bag as you are just tempting the thieves. My own wheeled duffel, at this point, has more duct tape than original material.
I agree about not using a Scuba specific bag. I think they're way overpriced and agree they're a target for thieves.
That's always been my thought. I'm sure it has happened but just because we all love scuba, I think people are really overstating how much people want to steal your scuba equipment. I could see unsupervised on a boat or at a resort but someone opening your luggage and stealing your wetsuit or fins, and risking their job, seems like a bit of a stretch. If you have camera equipment though I think that's totally different given how valuable it is and how it would have utility to the average person.Do you have specific instances of your dive gear stolen because you used a scuba "specific" dive bag?? I have been traveling all over the world since mid-80's with scuba specific gear bags (Scubapro, Stahlsac) without ANY issues with anything stolen at all, none!!! I had bags get delayed or didn't get off in the same airport I did and came a day or two later but nothing stolen. I make sure that they have locks on them and do my best to have them warped in the nylon cover they have at airports just to keep the honest people honest (I do this for dive bags or non-dive bags just as a precaution). If a destination is known for high incidents of theft, I probably won't be going there anyways.
I have a couple of Stahlsac bags. I had a Stalsac carry-on bag, which I had owned about 6 months. I had used it on a couple of trips, always as a carry on. During its last trip the rubber on one of the back wheels started peeling off. When I got home I contacted House of Scuba, where I purchased the bag. They reached out to Huish and then contacted me. I was instructed to permanently destroy the bag by cutting off the front of it and send House of Scuba proof. Immediately afterwards they refunded my money for the bag. I don't know about Huish customer service but the people from House of Scuba were great.Have you tried to get warranty repair on your Stahlsac?
