I think that's the key here. These are both examples of checking your carry-on's at the gate rather than at check-in. Frankly these are probably the idiots who tried to sneak on with far too much carry-on stuff so I don't mind their bags being thrown around.I do not see the problem here. The bags hit the ground which stopped them . Moral here is do not let them check your carry on at the gate.
