Did three dives there yesterday. I went even though reports were coming in that vis was about 8'. Descended on the dive buoy lines and vis was great. Out by the boats it was only 10-15 feet. Same around the sunken pier columns, too. Out around the swim platform it was 10 feet max. Last dive I swam toward the marina from the buoys. First 4-5 minutes (swimming very slowly) was average vis for the day. Then like a wall vis dropped to about 5 feet at only 20-30 fsw. All dives were done by about 2p and I noticed the swell picked up quite a bit before I left the parking lot. Anyone going this week, let me know.

Yeah....apparently the kelp is releasing a bunch of stuff into the water. I was the first one in the water so it wasn't from silting. Still....good times.

Mainland VIS at Laguna beach, shaws cove Saturday afternoon was maybe 4-5' and my buddies got caught in the surf line by an outside set, doing the head slam into the sand. Water was warm though, but quite a bit of surge.
When is the VIS going to improve?

July 4, Vis is not much better and with this south swell rolling by the surge is pretty bad. The May/June gloom...fog and drizzle refuses to go away. It HAS to get better soon!!!

I hope the vis gets better for this Saturday. I've never been to Catalina, but I've heard alot about how wonderful it is. It would be awesome to get a break and awesome vis, might make a frequent comer out of me.

Even down here in La Jolla, we've been getting and keeping this marine layer all day long. A few miles inland it's nice and warm, but the coast just stays muggy. I haven't had a sunny day dive yet.

Dominantly... we'll turn the special filters on shortly to try to improve vis for this coming weekend. Seriously, I sure hope conditions improve soon. I only did two dives over the Fourth and despite only fair vis, they were both good ones with unusual critters to film.

Well I would surely appreciate it. If you could turn the water heater up to about 67, that would be great as well.
:)
I'm sure that on an average day there it's got to be better then a good day here.
