I guess guild isn't really what I felt, just wa

Maybe not guilt but just hard to tell a dive master that you enjoy diving with that you are trying someone else.

I don't know. I think all the dive masters respect the other "respectable" dive shops. I don't think anyone would criticize Blue XT Sea or Aldora's dive masters.

I would have no problem telling them I am trying someone else. I would have a problem asking Jeanie to book my hotel if I weren't diving 100% with 3P. The same with the other dive shops.

I have stayed at Casa Mexicana about 10 times as a package with Tres Pelicanos. I really like the 4th and 5th floors that face South. You can see the ocean and ships and have less Melgar road noise that comes with the Ocean View. Sun hits the verandas in the afternoon for sunsets. It is a great property.

Casa Mexicana, Suites Bahia, and Colonial suites all have different prices. I have used Orbitz and gotten very good prices on rooms at Casa. I have stayed in the rear city rooms, south facing rooms, and have friends that have stayed in ocean facing rooms, also those rooms facing the dining area.
Although the dining area facing rooms may be noisy in the morning they are quite pleasant in the afternoon and evenings after breakfast is finished. City rooms are probably the best bet for quiet, south facing for sun on the balcony but more noise from the street below. I do enjoy the ocean facing but they are more expensive. It seems unlikely you would get switched to another one of their hotels if you booked for Casa.

We stay at Casa Mexican 2-3 times per year for the last 4 years or so. I have tried negotiating directly, reminding them we are regular customers, etc. and always have gotten about the same rate as we do on Hotels.com. We have NEVER been booked at a sister property when booked at CM. Cm is usually 70-80 a night (non ocean view) , Suites Bahia is about $40.

There are rooms on the front corners that that have a good view of the ocean, but not priced at the higher rate. We have stayed in all rooms but the ocean views, and can't really say we prefer one room over the other. For some reason we usually get a room facing the breakfast area. Our dive boat leaves at 7:30 so the noise of breakfast is not that big of a deal. The neighbors little dog barking at the breakfast staff is a great back up alarm clock and has saved our butts more than once! Not offensively loud, but you will hear him if you are facing the breakfast area.

Breakfast "officially" starts at 7, but coffee and fruit are usually out by about 10 til. I can't eat heavy before diving so its a quick, light breakfast by my standards, and out the door by 7:25 for the walk to the dive boat. If you are running late, I have heard you can ask for a to go container and eat on the boat. We also usually grab a couple of pears, apples, or bananas for SI.

We stay on the 4th or 5th floor and can't really say we prefer one room over the other unless you can get one of the corners. We don't spend that much time in the room except to sleep. Great location-especially if you are diving with Aldora or any other op that leaves from the Aldora pier, OCD clean, seriously...OCD clean, comfortable beds, great A/C, never ending hot water, incredible breakfast (tell Jamie and Santa hello), friendly staff, and around $70 a night.....what more could you ask for?

The only issue we have ever had is we requested a king bed and we're given 2 queens, as soon as a king was available, we were moved to one of the corner rooms...maybe one or two nights at the most. I actually prefer 2 queens....the wife...not so much, so it's a king room for me!! It was a last minute trip and the hotel was more full than usual so it was completely understandable.

Absolutely a great place to stay, I think you will be pleased.

Safe travels,
Jay

In response to the OP, Just my personal preference - I don’t care at ALL about Ocean View from the hotel room, not at Casa Mexicana, not at Hotel Cozumel, not at ANY Downtown hotel. In fact, since I spend very little time in a hotel room when I’m not either sleeping, showering, or changing clothes, the view out the hotel room window means almost nothing to me. For me, the most important factors are comfort - nice bed, quiet and efficient AC, and a bathroom and shower large enough so I don’t feel cramped (my biggest bitch about the room I once got at Hotel Casona Real was a toilet in such a tight space that I had to lock my knees together to sit on it - NOT good) - and quiet enough to sleep comfortably. At Casa Mexicana, that means a room facing south, high enough up (4th or 5th floor) and far enough back from Melgar that street sounds are negligible.

I have stayed many times at Casa Del Mar - a long walk from downtown for meals, but more convenient for diving (it gives me an extra 20 minutes or more for breakfast if using a downtown Dive Op, as that is about the travel time for a boat leaving a downtown pier to get to the CDM pier), and the full-size pool is, at least for me, a BIG plus over Casa Mexicana’s kiddie pool. I like Casa Mexicana a lot, but I won’t stay there in the very hot months, July through September, because of its lack of a full-size pool. At Casa Del Mar, I prefer a ground floor garden/pool view room. The rooms at the back are standard rooms, facing the parking lot, and are smaller and, IMO, not as comfortable as the Superior rooms. I prefer ground level because it allows me to walk out the sliding doors to the pool for a quick dip without having to go through the lobby. Others prefer an upper floor room with a balcony for greater security for hanging wet scuba gear outside - although I have never had anything taken from my ground level patio. Entirely a matter of personal preference.

I know... It's a dilemma... I really like the posts from Dave and Christi. But Jeanie and 3P have treated me really well. I would hate to ask Jeanie to get me a great room and not give 100% of my business.

Do the opposite and tell them up front. XTC, Aldora and others load from Aldora peir. You tell them up front and don't worry about it. They may be dissapointed but it is your money.

I would feel bad if I did not tell them and they saw me at the SI.

I would tell, them. My dilemma is booking the hotel myself and using a couple of dive ops, or letting 3P or XT Sea book my hotel and dive only with them. I wouldn't want them to book my hotel, and then not use them for the entire stay.

IMO, the difference between dive ops is largely about the boat ride. Once I am in the water it doesn't much matter to me who got me there. Yeah, there are the big tanks some offer but the difference in price isn't worth it to me (and yeah, I've taken into account the minutes of bottom time per dollar equation) and most (all?) ops have competent DM's who know the reefs and can spot wildlife. If I were to book my hotel through a dive op I'd dive with them.

Just ask Jeanie and Christy to give you a price for the same itinerary and then make a choice. Ask about cash discount. They are both excellent, but just be courteous and dive with whomever makes your hotel reservation

Why not? They may get a referral fee for booking you.
