Talk about bad advise: Has anyone noticed that about a third of the ships that sink were carrying a secret gold shipment? Even worse is the guy that found a document in the archives in Seville (Spain) with a map with an X that marks the spot.
The local equivalent to that is the mythical train that is supposed to be in Lake Whatcom. Everyone has heard the rumor, but no one knows where or when it went in or has any evidence of it actually happening. There IS evidence for a train in Lake Washington, 70-odd miles south of there. Still, every time i mention diving in the lake someone says "You know there is a train in there, right?"

I always roll my eyes when people ask about gold on Great Lakes shipwrecks. These were workhorse cargo vessels carrying lumber, salt, grain, coal, iron ore, and other cargo. Some passenger vessels that have turned up bits of jewelry and the like, but gold like Spanish ships? 🙄🤦‍♀️

We have 2 local quarries that both "have" a mysterious corvette that everyone has heard of but no one has ever seen.

the person who told me said he dived at Lake Tahoe (over 6,000 feet) without adjustment, and he was fine.

That's called "science." Don't be dismissive of science.

With double 133s I'm starting a dive about 25 lbs negative in my drysuit, if I managed all of that with my drysuit im pretty sure I’d resemble a blimp and the amount of gas in my feet would be comical.
I don’t wear my seals that tight and I would blow a seal first.

I believe that was the most scientifically sound concept he taught.

If you're taking OW course and are concerned about being able to locate buddies after certified, getting the contact info. from your classmates is a great place to start. May be your only choice, but makes much more sense to try to buddy with someone with at least some experience.
Out of my two Recreational scuba courses, I was the only one to have a dive after any of the courses, so no buddies there😅
