I have faber lp95's and just got them re hydroed. when i asked for the pluss stamp they said they did not do + ratings for small (scuba) tanks. I asked about the req's for the pluss and they said . They fill the tank and check the expansion, then depresurize the tank and look for how much stretch went away. (Ignore the specifics on this) If it returns to less than 20% of the expansion it gets a pass, over 20% and it is a fail. less than 10% and it can get the + renewed. Also if one shop does not renew the + another shop can on the next hydro. My 6 tanks were under 1% and they got no +'s on any of them. But they are the only show in town and i fill my own so for me its no biggy. But in principle it bothers me. Hopefully someone out there can chime in on how the pluss works when hydro'ing.

That's a good point. When I spoke to the dive shop yesterday about hydro yesterday, the guy told me that the hydro place that does all his hydro has been in business for over 30 years so I am hoping that they would have seen this model tank over the years and will have the relevant data to test it for a + rating.

I will send Faber an email to request that info, thx Allen.

I didn't know anything about the REE stamp until last night when I read that mentioned on a few posts here ion Scubaboard.

Love this board!!!! :bounce4::bounce4:

That's what the guy was saying that it might be but since it was not his tank, he was not 100% sure.

Is it worth the $70 I paid for it?

It's out of hydro ( only one non-factory hydro at 1996) and the inside looks factory fresh ( I took the valve off and dropped a light inside it and checked). The outside is painted white with very little chip/ding marks so I thought I would take a chance on it.

Most LP95s sell for $200 or more. $70 is a great deal!

I totally understand your frustration. I would feel the same if they refuse to give it the + even though the tank clearly qualifies for it especially in my case when I have to rely on LDS and big chain DS for refills - no + then only 2400 for me tank.

I hope the hydro place my tank is ending up at will give it a plus designation.

Thx

Even one that was made in 1992?

Really?

I'm feeling much better about my find!

Thx

As long as you have a shop that understands what is what you will not havany problems. and yes a cave fill does make for nice long dive.

So small world... I just recently purchased the exact same model tank....sent it to hydro and it came back without the + rating. After contacting the hydro facility and asking why, I was told that because the tank does not have an REE stamping on it, it cannot be + rated...that this is in the DOT regs.

Does anyone with intimate knowledge of the regs wish to comment?

I was told the same thing when I started talking to LDS about this issue.

After gotten nowhere with the LDSs, I emailed Faber for the REE information on this tank. It only took 3 days for Faber to get back to me and with the REE info I started contacting the hydro facilities directly. Of the 7 hydo places I contacted, I found only two that will or know how to test for the + rating on these older steel tanks (ones without the REE__ stamped on them from the factory).

One of them ask that I bring a printout of the original email from Faber at time of hydro and the other place said to just show up because they already have that information on hand.

What I would do if I were you is to post a new thread on this forum and ask for referrals on good/knowledgeable hydro places in your area. Contact Faber for the REE value on your tank and start calling the hydro places once you received the infomration from Faber .

I am quite sure you will find a place that will work with you on getting the + rating back on your tank. Unfortunately, you will most likely have to pay for another hydro unless the original place that did the hydro will accept the email from Faber, use the REE value and re-test your tank again for the + rating.

Good luck!

As I understand it, they don't need to do a retest..they should already have the info from the original test. I probably will need to get the DOT hydro facility supervisor involved, because they seemed rather adamant that they could get in trouble for putting the + on a tank without an REE.

What was the email address you used to contact Faber?

I email I used to contact Faber is 'info@divefaber.com' .

I hope you can get it worked out with them

Keep us poster, good luck!

Total B.S. all they have to do is contact the manufacturer for the REE number. Add this one to the ever-growing pile of hydro idiocy.
