You might not like being one of the 5000 or so having to go through the tiny CZM airport at the same time on the way in and out. The typical Boeing 737 seats about 200, so 5000 cruseros would be about 25 planeloads coming into and leaving CZM on changeout days in addition to whomever is so unlucky to have gotten booked in or out the same day.

Still beats the bag drag.

Depends. I was able to do a last minute trip in February because the Cancun flight was under $300. It didn't even take much more time since that was nonstop while I would have had a plane change to get to Coz.

I live near ATL, so I don't have to worry about a plane change.

A plane change is not a deal breaker for me; at least with a layover instead of the bag drag I don't have to deal with my luggage during the extra time.

I'd take the layover over the bag drag all day long lol
You and me both. Last year I had to go to Cozumel on Southwest because some of the family had SWA credits they had to use; the layover in the Hobby (Houston) airport was about 5 hours. It was still better than the bag drag, IMO.

And now SWA doesn't fly to Cozumel which is quite annoying as I've got a ton of miles and status.

We take the bag drag any day over a layover (in the States). Coming from Canada it adds waaaaay too much time at the airport in Toronto to preclear US customs and, once you add this to the actual layover time, it's faster and usually much cheaper to fly in and out of CUN.
