    Why certify?

I am breaking off a point made in the solo forum, it raises an interesting question in my mind... So it makes me wonder, what is the point of certifications, if dive ops, boats and shops should be under no obligation to recognize them? I think it should be pointed out, the conversation...

    Box jellys in Bonaire now

Just got home from a trip to Bonaire. Just posting a warning to anyone at or headed to the Island, I got hit by a banded box jelly Thursday night snorkeling. Hurt really bad and I still have quite a mark, but nothing more than that. Make sure you are wearing at least a dive skin. I was just in...

    Sl 960d

Hello, I have the SL 960D strobe, and it appears the bulb is burned out. It charges but even the test function does not work. When I took the unit apart the bulb, which appears hardwired in, has a black burn line in it. Is it possible to replace this bulb, or is my unit toast? Thanks, Drew

    Sl 960d

Hello everyone, Haven't been around in a while iI guess. Well, am currently wrapping up a trip in Bonaire, and on the first dive of the trip my strobe stopped working. Batteries are fresh, it charges and the ready light comes on, but it will not fire, not even the test function. After taking...

    Bonaire 2009 trip report

Ok, having flown from Bonaire yesterday:depressed:, waking up to 10 inches of snow this morning:shocked2:, believe me I have spent alot of time reflecting! I was not sure what to expect with some conflicting reports about diving conditions after Omar, and I found good and bad sites. My first...

Who said no big animals in Bonaire?

I hate to differ, but at Red Beryl this morning I rolled over and happened to catch a few fellow mammals swimming our way... Only wish they had hung around long enough to have some real fun!:D

    Last week of February

I am wondering how many people will be in Bonaire for the last week of February? Anybody want to get together for a dive, or whatever? I'll be staying at a new place called Bamboo Bali, but will also be over at GRI several times for food and internet service. If anyone wants to try and meet up...

    Why Nikon?

I am an experienced diver who feel in love with UW photography about 2 years ago. I think I found a home so to speak, and wish to become a bit more serious about it. I am slowly saving my pennies to buy a mid range DSLR and a housing to go with it, hoping that by the time I have the scratch the...

    Homemade DSLR housing?

Hello all. I was curious if anyone has made a housing for their DSLR? If so, how did you work around tripping the shutter and accessing the other controls? I can make a box but working the camera requires a little more engineering. I was also curious if there is a formula for figuring out how...

    Optilink reaming

What a great new forum. I am a new photographer, and I love my setup. I have the DC500 with the digital flash and a WA lens and dock. The setup takes better pics than I do, so that is always good:D At any rate, I have always had the occasional sync trouble, but this past trip it was becoming...

    Schuylkill artifact diving

Hey everyone, I was out in PA the other day, I had some time to kill so I found myself on the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge. Knowing that there was a supply area there fed by boats, I was wondering if anyone ever dove for artifacts there? Is it legal, every find anything?

    Accidents that turn out cool...

Many times when taking a shot, something goes wrong. In this case my strobe failed, but I like the effect of the lights and shadows, so I kept the pic... Anybody else have examples of this?

    Super Macro

Hi all, Just a question on macro and super macro shots. Those tiny shrimp in the anenome shots? For an example Alcina's bubble coral shrimp pic in the Ningaloo thread. BTW that is a beautiful shot... Are those pics taken like that? Or are they more or less normal macro shots that are...

    How important is it?

To remove and clean the oring? On the other thread, Charlie 99 mentions his oring has about 300 dives, being removed and replaced 150 times? I am using a Sealife DC500, have about 50 dives on it, and all I have ever done was make sure the housing and ring look clean. I have never removed...

    Jersey diver

Hello everyone! I posted in a couple of threads, figured I ought to write an intro. My name is Drew, I am from NJ, go by the moniker scubadrew in some other places, though this is my preffered screen name when I can use it. It refrences a saltwater fly that caught the first striped bass I landed...
