    Colored LP hoses

another good reason not to use a colored hose (irrespective of "rule 6" or durability issues) is that you should always donate the reg you are breathing from and that may not be the one with the yellow hose. This isn't an issue if you are ALWAYS going to be breathing the long (yellow) hose...

A "balanced rig" and how do you achieve it?

Ditto! I also have an AL plate for Freshwater with my 104's. I use a steel for salt water and it works out very well. I would say if you're in the pool to dump the gas to 100psi though... and have a buddy in the water with you! You don't want to be buoyant with empty tanks. That could be ugly...

    I was wondering

true.... I'm hoping as it becomes more widely accepted that the price will drop some.

How open do you keep your iso valve?

Wide F**kin Open - hey to DL! ;) The only way you will need to actually isolate your tanks is if you loose a burst disk, tank neck o-ring or the isolator itself starts leaking on one side otherwise you just shut off the post that is giving the problem. A situation that would require isolation...

    I was wondering

Omar, I can definitely vouch for the benefits of "shallow" Helium. I've used 30/30 on several of my recent cave dives where the depths ranged from as little as 40ft to around 100max. I've previously done these dives on 32% (EAN) and can tell you there is a marked difference when doing the same...

what are you doing during long deco?

How about watching your buddy during long deco's? Maybe that's assumed but I wanted to make the point that it's very important to watch your buddy during deco for any signs of tox or other problems. Having said that.... in the caves during deco we sometimes play with the bream that hang...

    Silent-Submersion vs. Gavin

Re-engineer or copy? Bill Gavin (an engineer who designs underwater vehicles, rebreathers, and other gear for the US Navy) and Trey basically re-engineered the Mako to make it perform better (rewound motor), last longer (more battery), and run nearly three times as deep (completely different...

    Silent-Submersion vs. Gavin

If Rodney is making them fully "lock off" now that's good. They do however have a "cruise control" and it's designed to be just that.... This is copied directly from the Silent Submersion web site... "The UV scooters replace the two Mako handles with a unique, one handed operation...

A few words about the real DIR guys...

Yes, contrary to some people's opionions on the board DIR divers aren't Darth Vader/Nazi wanna be's.. haha... Those who think DIR or GUE people are a bunch of Nazi's and run around telling people they are going to die are the ones who don't get what DIR is all about. Gear is a small part of...

    DIR Approved Mask

Hey Roak, That's the mask I have and it's also the best fitting mask I've ever found! I've got a Tusa Spendive II that I use as a backup that also fits very nicely.

    DIR Approved Mask

There is no "DIR Approved" mask and just about everyone I know has a different one. Some features that would be preferred would be... 1. Good fit (very important to find the mask that fits YOUR face) 2. Low volume (easier to clear) 3. Black skirt (reduces reflections and glare from the...

    Silent-Submersion vs. Gavin

First off you should read more about DC or AC motors if you think because their continous duty that they dont produce heat. When they heat up they need some way to dispate the heat and this is is why SS scooters use aluminum housings on their motors. Even if they only get warm and you have no...
