I have a Reefmaster film camera which I really liked, but if you want to go digital, I think it is worth the extra money to go with an Olympus or similar set up. I got an Oly 4040 with the PT housing thinking it would just be for underwater, but I love the camera for land as well now too.

Fortunately where I live on Oahu, the biggest problem I had was leaving my windows open when I left for work this morning. I have some wet carpet, but the cats stayed dry! But traffic was ugly, and watching the news, not everyone here had it so good today!

You all are making me home sick!! I spent a great 32 months on Guam about 10 years ago. The diving sure was better than here (Hawaii). Although, there are much worse places to be!!

Guam Tropical Dive Shop and Micronesia Dive Association are the two I am most familiar with. I think both are PADI shops. Both have WEB sites which should be easy to find with a name search. Guam is a great place to dive!

From where are you travelling?? That will make a big difference in where you go. I think from most places, Bali would be easier to get to than Fiji, but there are direct flights from Honolulu. I think you would need a LOT of frequent flyer miles to get a free ticket to either location. And...

XJae, I would say that is true of the North Shore in Oahu. Sharks Cove is one my favorite dive sites in the summer....wouldn't wanna dive it right about now. But the surfers are having it great!!

For underwater use, you are much better off paying the extra $$ and going for the 5050. On land, I'm not sure there would be much of a difference between the lenses, but underwater, there will be.

I talked to a couple of Oly reps at the Navy Exchange in Hawaii. They gave me the impression was not the "next" model, but was intended to reach a different audience. The 5060's lenses are quite as good, and the price is not quite as high. I also don't know that there is an underwater housing...

A strobe (or two) is recommended, but you can get some decent macro pictures with just the internal flash.
