I have the small Apeks lifeline spool (15 m) with a small 1m DSMB. I clip off the spool as shown in the Apeks video. Both spool and DSMB are stored and clipped inside my Apeks Tech shorts. Bomber proof.

I’ve never understood why SM divers go to all that effort to be “streamlined” then clip off a bunch of arse barnacles to their butt d ring.

Because it's all sitting in your shadow where it probably makes the turbulence effects worse. Whereas clipped off to a front d-ring, it contributes to drag. I expect at a diver's speed the effect of the latter is much more noticeable than that of the former.

As per the OP, on more than one occasion, I've watched clipped off smbs unspool. Just put it in a pocket.

Arse barnacles! Nicking that one :thumb:

You guys that carry them in a pocket - do you use it every dive or are you carry it for a backup/emergency type thing??

If you used it every dive, would you still carry it in a pocket?

Take a look at this video. It's for Apeks' Spools, but can be used with any reel or spool.

UM...

This has worked very well for me for a long time...

I have a bungee loop holding the double dog tight to the finger spool...will not un-spool until the bungee has been removed...

OMS pockets are large...more than enough room for a rolled up 3 meter long sea sausage...
