ScubaBoard is losing its form.

Normally the above would’ve ignited a 36 page civil war with a few cases of moral injury along the way resulting in a half dozen GI3 grenades lobbed into the DIR trenches and at least one 70-something year old diver spontaneously bursting into flames at his keyboard.

The purists on SB are getting very old and tired 😩

but many of us still hold to this rule

Me, too.

I’m a total knot, cord and rope nerd. In fact, just yesterday I used Dyneema with a Prusik along with a double fisherman’s bend to secure the ignition key to my new DPV.

To be clear, Superman confronting Kryptonite suffers less than me confronting an improper or poorly-dressed knot.

And melting the running ends and smashing them into the knot? This technique is clear evidence of a severe learning disability according to the leading medical and educational societies in North America and the EU.

And zip ties or split rings? They invoke breathy curses against untold generations of children and grandchildren of the immoral perpetrators. These dregs of society should be kept from the innocent eyes of the polite and delicate members of our dive communities.

The board of ethics is still out on the use of Superglue but academic debates are trending towards disfavor.

Guess I better stop diving

No, there is a way out of your misery. Learning your knots offers a pathway to salvation and everlasting dive joy. Even the shiest of fish and octopus will swarm around your new self like the forest creatures around Snow White as she sings. There is hope!

I should probably stop procrastinating, go in the office and actually perform some kind of work today so my timecard entry isn’t a complete lie.

Some of us choose to learn from a very small number of mistakes others have made and paid dearly for, while others feel the risk is overblown and not a huge deal. You have to make up your own mind and dive as you wish. It really makes no difference to me.

While I admire advanced knottery, I'm lazy so just use a small zip tie ('cable tie' to you folk) or these bungie loop thingies to attach clips to lights:

Should I somehow manage to clip myself to an underwater obstacle, then both zip ties and these bungee loops will break if given a large amount of force...

I shall now sit back and wait for the first post to tell me I'm going to die.

Cheers
Rohan.
I actually prefer to use zipties when possible as well. The nice thing with zip ties is you can use a few in the same space as it would take to tie a knot, which makes it somewhat redundant. Also much easier to twist the item and you can snap the ziptie, as opposed to cutting the cave line if needed. That said I do like to tie the knots using old DSMB line, from DGX. I honestly do it because it looks cool, the zip ties work fine and have lasted just as well. I did have a light chew through the line I used to tie a boltsnap and almost lost it on the first dive. Never even noticed it was cut until I exited the water with it hanging down YMMV. Burning the ends seems to keep things locked together well enough for me.

I can't wait to see a video from you demonstrating the better and proper way of knotting :)
