This is a really good video. Possibly the most important part is at the end, he melts the line to the knot. You don't just melt the ends to make sure they don't fray but you melt the ends to the knot so it is all one melted glob.
The only think that freaked me out a little is using the plastic part of the lighter to press everything together. I use the metal part of the lighter so I don't accidentally blow myself up.

unfortunately, I can barely remember a simple knot and resort to half hitches and super glue, all to often!
Lol, same here. I have to look up the videos every time.
. The only reason I remembered to melt the knot was because I just replaced the bolt snap on my light. I just search YouTube for "how to tie a bolt snap"
I use 200lb test braided downrigger line. 300ft costs about $30 and will last you forever.
