Anyone have experience with both the Eon Core and the i770R? Considering getting one and they both look pretty good. The core is on sale right now almost everywhere giving you 90% off the transmitter in a bundle.

Hi @Howie411

Not sure where you are located, assuming the US. As you listed the i770R, also assuming you do not need trimix/CCR support. There are several full size, AI computers available for around the same price. One of the major differences is the decompression algorithms they run, I would imagine you are taking this into consideration.

Shearwater Perdix AI, around $1285, runs Buhlmann ZH-L16C with GF
Ratio iX3M Pro Easy, around $1178, runs Buhlmann ZH-L16C with 6 GF presets
Suunto Eon Core, currently around $1040, runs Suunto Fused RGBM
Aqua Lung i770R, around $1298, runs PZ+
Scubapro G2, currently around $1199, runs Buhlmann ZH-L16 ADT

If you're in Europe, you could also consider:
Heinrichs-Weikamp OSTC 2 TR, around 1050 euros/$1208, runs Buhlmann ZH-L16C with GF

One SB poster with extensive experience with Suunto Fused RGBM and experience with Buhlmann ZH-L16C with GF is @Diving Dubai You can search for posts from him on this topic. He has been extremely patient with me and I would imagine he would respond to a personal message from you. I cannot personally comment on the two deco algorithms for the computers you listed, as I dive only DSAT and Buhlmann ZH-L16C with GF.

Best of luck in your computer purchase and good diving,

Craig

Dashing out to the airport to collect my wife so this is brief...

I dive the Eon steel. same computer different case

Sunnto Fused RGBM and Buhlmann ZH-L16C with GF both behave in a similar way. I have them both set to lowest conservatism, often (most months) am doing multi repativ dives beyond Rec limits and into light (less than 10 min deco)

If anything the Perdix is slightly more conservative but only by a minute.

The Suunto will lock you out if you miss a mandatory deco stop by more than 3 mins. In 4 years and 700 dives on it, never happened.

Neither are perfect no computers are

The Eon has the best screen and display by miles

My perdix is only used as a back up...

Freakn spot on.

Depends on your diving. Suunto computers are great. Just don’t make a mistake. They’ll lock you out (abandon you). My advice is get a computer that will calculate through your mistake. Shearwater Perdix or Ratio IX3M. Both are AI.
HOWEVER, the cost of a Suunto Eon Core with transmitter at LP is insane cheap. Beats out greedy eBay sellers.

I'm in the US and I currently dive with a Suunto Cobra 3. So I don't really care about the algorithm it uses. I don't even go diving that much. I just hate the interface and menu system on the Cobra 3 and I'm a big fan of technology. So one of the 2 listed dive computers peaked my interest.

Sorry, I always assume someone willing to spend that much money for a dive computer, must have a deeper interest.

Enjoy your new computer :)

I love my Eon core. But one bit of advice - the iPhone app for it, MovesCount, is terrible. If you’ve got an iPhone then spend $10 on Macdive which syncs and downloads from the Eon perfectly.

Subsurface is a free option and works on Android but it did not synch as easily for me.

One other thing I like about the Eon - it counts down the safety stop in seconds instead of minutes that my Zoop did. Very minor feature but makes a safetystop seem faster when you have nothing interesting at 5m to look at.

My advice is get a computer that will calculate through your mistake.

:rofl3: While you're at it, get one that will un-bubble your blood and de-gas your spinal fluid after you bend yourself into a pretzel.
