You assert you are a professional software developer; so be it. From my point of view the Perdix and its support and performance and company attitude are unparalleled in the industry, perhaps in ANY industry. and I'm sorry your own attitude is so piss-poor. You are determined to be aggrieved, so it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Chill.
If you are not a software developer and if you do not have a Perdix AI, I am not sure what qualifies you to insult me regarding the facts that I posted or statements regarding my own feelings.
I've said it before: Shearwater computers are extremely high quality and their customer service is top notch. But, that doesn't mean they are absolutely perfect in all things. Look at their firmware release notes and observe all the bugs they have fixed over time. They DO have a bug here or there, from time to time.
In the case of AI, it is better than half-baked, for sure. But, the AI feature does not have the "mature" feeling that I, for one, have come to expect from their gear.
- There is no way to look at the log in the dive computer as see start or end tank pressure or SAC for a dive.
- The GTR (Gas Time Remaining) displayed, and how it is not what many people (at least, here on SB) agree they would want, is well-discussed here on SB. The GTR does not reflect all the ascent time that the computer will prompt for, and it doesn't display at all once you go into deco. Oceanic has had GTR "right" for years. Why should a company with Shearwater's reputation go backwards on this? If I'm going into a few minutes of deco, which I will oblige using back gas, why would the GTR stop displaying? Especially if I only have one active gas configured?
- I spent an hour trying to update my firmware from V40 to V44 yesterday and it kept failing, with different error messages each time. But, it successfully downloaded my dives. This was using the latest Shearwater Desktop, on a Macbook Pro Retina, running macOS 10.12.5.
- The (latest) Shearwater Desktop software downloaded my dives, and it shows my tank pressure, but it doesn't show my overall SAC for the dive anywhere. It only shows the instantaneous SAC for any given point in the dive, if I hover over the graph.
- I had two transmitters on my dive on Saturday. One on my back gas and one on my deco bottle. They are both paired to my Perdix. But, I did not have the Perdix configured to actually display the tank pressure from my deco bottle on the display, so it did not capture any tank pressure data at all, for my deco bottle, in the log. At least, I'm assuming that's why it didn't capture any T2 data.
From my perspective, as an owner and user of a Perdix AI (and, formerly, a Petrel 2), the AI feature simply has a "not fully mature" feel to it - which is not something I have come to expect from a Shearwater computer. I had a detailed email exchange with the Engineering Manager from Shearwater back in early February, regarding the way GTR currently works. All I got was "thank you for your input", which is fine. That doesn't bother me at all. But, the computer has been out for 8 months now and, as far as I know, there have been no changes or improvements in the firmware or the desktop software at all, to address any of the issues with AI.
It's a (positive) testament to Shearwater that we (here on SB) would even be talking about something like this. If we were talking about the way AI works on a Hollis TX-1, I don't think ANYONE would be discussing getting improvements from Hollis, based on user feedback, and why none have come out in 8 months time. It is precisely because Shearwater sets such a high bar for responsiveness that I or anyone else would even have the thought to give feedback and get an update so soon.
Anyway, like I said, Shearwater is awesome. Computers and company. But, that doesn't blind me to things that could be improved. There is no need to respond to me as if I've insulted your religion.
I've been able to download dives from my Perdix AI directly to Dive Log on my iPhone including AI data since early January. I can then synch logs back and forth between Dive Log on my iPhone and Diving Log 6.0 on my PC. It all works great - maybe Subsurface and Microsoft are the ones with the issues?
No issue with Microsoft here. I run Linux, macOS, and Windows 7. Shearwater software for working with the Perdix AI only works on one of those - Mac - and that's where I'm using it.
