Scubapro Galileo 2?

The G2 is the hottest product to hit the SCUBA market. Sorry, I have not responded to posts, but I have been too busy getting divers into this great new dive computer.

I just read some feedback I found interesting. Linus, one of the primary developers of Subsurface, the dive logging and planning software, bought a G2 for himself and just got back from a dive trip where he used it. This is what he posted to the Subsurface email list:



I don't know what the pricing is like in other countries, but here in the U.S. where the Perdix AI is less expensive than the G2, this just reinforces what I already thought - that I would definitely buy a Perdix AI over a G2, even if I did not actually need the extra capabilities that the Perdix offers (again, assuming the Perdix is also less expensive).

Perhaps Linus was referring to the safety stop count down in Galileo starting when you get to 15 ft and then it continues as long as you stay within the 10-20ft band. At 20 ft I manually start my timer in my Sol so it behaves like other recreational dive computers that start their safety stop countdown at 20 ft.

Importantly the RBT in the Galileo includes deco stops, which the Perdix AI does not . The Galileo offers optional variable depth deep stops that ensure you're off gassing at the deep stops and a variable ascent rate that depends on the depth, and allows faster ascent at greater depths.

Well, I suppose that it's good that it has a feature to let you work around that annoyance.

Are you suggesting that you think the G2 is preferable to use for deco diving over a Perdix? Also, can you refer me to any recent, or somewhat recent, independent research that validates that their deep stops and/or variable ascent rate produces ascents that are statistically as safe or safer than ascents done without deep stops and done using a constant 30fpm/10mpm ascent rate? The actual research I've seen seems to suggest that deep stops are statistically more likely to result in incidents of DCS. And the algorithm used in the studies I saw, which produced the lower incidence of DCS, relies on a constant ascent rate (30fpm/10mpm). If there is other evidence out there that suggests deep stops and variable ascents rates are good things, I'd really like to read up on it.

The Perdix AI does not show GTR (Gas Time Remaining) at all once you do go into deco. That IS a minor annoyance when I have gone into deco and am planning to only have a few minutes worth of deco to do and do it on back gas. However, it's not a huge deal because I would not go into deco unless I knew I had so much gas for a safety margin that my GTR is really of no concern.

And, I am very hopeful that Shearwater will address that in a future firmware release. It's their first time out with air integration, so it shouldn't be too surprising that they have a rough edge or two. It definitely doesn't seem as egregious as having safety stop functionality for years and still making their users manually start a timer to count down safety stops.

I see almost nothing on your website that is not Scubapro. Your extremely enthusiastic promotion of the new G2 should be interpreted in that light, correct?

Don't get me completely wrong, I dive a MK25/S600 and have been diving a Knighthawk for nearly 12 years, just don't like their computers

Correct. Contractually he cannot sell any other brand. It's SP or nothing. That's the price you pay for "Platinum". Ergo everything with an SP logo is the bestest ever.

How do your prices compare between a Cobalt 2, Pro Plus X, Eon Steel, and the G2? Including transmitters for the Eon and G2?

Do you also sell the Perdix AI? How does your price on that (with transmitter) compare to those others?
