Maybe it's just me - but I had to smile when I read Reck Diver's post. I took it as totally tongue-in-cheek.
Well, maybe if you know him...that's the problem on the internet....reading in to the actual intent of the poster is sometimes almost impossible. I never met him in person, so I read it as a trashing of an area some of the most famous photographers in the world are very taken with. If I read him wrong, then I was the jerk...Though...when you post something here, you do have to consider how you think most people will interpret it.

I still think a video contest between Adventure Dives of the Keys, versus Adventure Dive of Palm Beach should happen.....with a poll at the end on who thinks which area has more excitement and adventure.
Divers from the keys should have a handle on YouTube videos already showing adventure, so it should be up to them to pick the right videos for such a shoot off. If no one wants to play, we could always do a few hours of Keys video searching and come up with the ones that honestly look the most exciting, and then contrast these with Palm Beach Adventure dive videos ( which we have a huge amount of :)

Wreck diver, clearly you don't understand that not all of the best dive sites have been found yet… Some of my favorite dive sites are incredibly hard to get to, never crowded, because I'm one of the first or second people ever to dive there… Palm Beach has some great dive sites, but so does the keys, everywhere in Florida has great, world-class dive sites!

Dan, I'm ashamed that you would come in here and Post these derogatory comments like that, I think you took it a little bit over-the-top, and you need to realize that there's a lot more Florida than just Palm Beach County! As somebody who I generally think has a pretty good head on their shoulders, I don't understand why you would think that the keys are not full of amazing dive sites. I've done some pretty amazing places in Palm Beach County and in the keys and I love them both, and I don't need Videos to tell me that I will be back to both locations to dive again in the future. And what in the world is a baby dive? And what is an adventure dive?

I'm glad that I've never met anybody on a dive boat yet that complains and fumes about how terrible the locations that they are diving that day are. If you don't think that the amazing sites to see in the keys or in Palm Beach County or in Broward County aren't amazing then stay out of them but why try to smear places that obviously are amazing place to go diving?

I remember diving off Molasses with a charter years ago(6 pack). We had seen schools of eagle rays, reef sharks, turtles and the usual 1000s of fish in windex blue water(viz was way over 100 feet, flat calm and no current).
The dive op asked would you like to stay here and everybody said yes but one guy he said and I quote "I am not a Molasses type of guy". I still dont know what that meant but we stood and had a better dive than the first one.

That was 10 years ago and to this day Mo is still a special place.

Wtf is an adventure dive?

So the OP has given a trip report that far exceeds most...and all you guys can do is argue about which great dive location is better?

An adventure dive has big marine life and huge adrenaline, and it pumps electricity through your veins.
Usually there is big structure, and biomass far beyond anything divers are used to.

I am sure the Keys have Adventure dives also. In Palm Beach, this is what many of us dive for.

Yeah, but if you have < 1300 grams of grey/white matter you might not get it!!

Though I will say a good number of the dive boats in Palm Beach County scare the B-Jesus out of me. But that's a thread for another day. Just Glad I have my own boat and can take friends diving from the Keys to Jupiter.

Looks like Reck Diver and Reefman were trolling with the right bait....nice hookup, excellent battle with an opponent who jumped, sounded, tailwalked, sulked, and you'll remember for a long time.

But Dudes, unless you're gonna put him on the wall, perhaps it's time for a little catch and release..

Thanks for the show, guys...

And to the original poster..congrats on your first BHB dive...hope you get to do more. If you stick around a while you'll find that pretty much all of Florida has something unique to offer in diving.

What about Dade?

Jah Jah,

I agree my tone was far too harsh.....especially for the friendly atmosphere that Scubaboard deserves.
Again, I would not have started a post like this, it was my over-the-top response that became problematic to the "Zen".

There is one issue though, that I can't really resolve. I really DO think that Palm Beach has much better diving than Fort Lauderdale, miami or the Keys, especially for Advanced divers. I think we prove this every time we get divers who have been to the keys for years, and finally try Palm beach, and they are blown away by Palm Beach. I think it would be easy to prove with the video match up I suggested---an idea that the Keys should have the advantage with, by sheer volume of photographers and videographers that have been there in the last 20 years, and by the volume of their current YouTube videos.
I have always been extremely pissed about how the prostituted Print magazines, will only do a significant story on destinations that will advertise heavily----the ads are just payment for running the stories--the stories create the mass traffic that goes to the Keys and Cayman and cozumel, etc. Again, the thing I react to, is that the masses go to these places due to the lies and deceit of the print magazines, based on ad expenditures, and not on real diving quality.
And the print magazines also will push diving to the lowest skill level, because that is what the masses represent....the need for "baby diving"--which means no currents, anchoring the boat, nothing that is much more challenging than swimming around in a 10 foot deep public pool. This is what an OW Cert and AOW qualifies a diver for, afterall. It takes lots of experience, before any diver can go beyond this level of challenge....and this is the true value of the Keys--to me...It really is a great place for new divers, or once a year divers. But it sickens me that the medias allow this to eclipse the Adventure Diving of Palm Beach--or even of the Adventure Diving of the Keys or of Cozumel..they only push the zero challenge sites...stuff that "100% of divers could do, and enjoy...Except that divers that really are advanced, should GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE MORE ADVENTURE!
