The last time I left CZM I was amazed and amused at what I saw at the airport. Two young people with a small baby must have bought up half the trinkets in CZM. They had 4 very large bags, 3 of which when put on the scale were all way over the 50 pound weight limit.
The counter person let them pull their bags and rearrange them. As everyone in the checkin line watched they moved their bags to the side and opened them up spreading the contents all over the floor. The fellow was carrying his personal item (a very large backpack) which he also laid on the floor. As we all watched they pulled a ton of items out of their overweight checked bags and stuffed it all in the backpack.. using as much force as they could muster to get it all in and then zipped closed. By the time they were done the backpack alone had to weigh 50 pounds or more.
They then fastened up their 3 large suitcases and reweighed them at the same checkin scale. They managed to get all three bags down to under 50 pounds each but it was then all being carried on the plane in the backpack.
I just watched and shook my head wondering what in the world had just been accomplished by the slight of hand that I just saw take place. The couple left CZM with the same amount of weight and the airline had accomplished absolutely nothing while still carrying the same amount of weight.
The irony in the result of the exercise still amuses me, go figure..
