I guess I'll keep paying the $30 bag fee and taking what I think I need. Dragging my lightest bags across to the circle probly won't work so I'll stop by the baño, then grab a beer for the van.

First I stop by the baño

I have got to get my 175# of luggage on better wheels...!!
I think Don means 175# per bag as he brings everything including the kitchen sink.:D

where is this Margarita cart you speak of? Is it complimentary? Sort of a welcome to Mexico.

I always walk off the airport property and catch a cab at the circle.I have been going to Cozumel for 12 years at least 3 to 4 times a year and never wait more then 1 or 2 minutes.I am not cheap just don't like the taxi mafia in Coz,

Going back to this...All you're doing is adding fuel to a smoldering fire. Besides the facts that street taxi drivers are not supposed to pick you up near the airport and can get into a heap of trouble if they're caught...Due to low passenger counts at the airport, half of the van drivers are out of work and those that are working are taking home a lot less income than they used to. Some van drivers may have second jobs so they can feed their families, but many don't -- there are too few jobs available here. When you beat the system, you're only hurting people and that isn't a very nice way to treat Cozumelenos who are so welcoming & wonderful to the island's visitors.

You're a VISITOR to a foreign country and should be open to accepting and using the system here. The van service is friendly, easy and reliable and there's no excuse not to use them except for being cheap and, as you said, that's not your excuse! I LIVE within walking distance of the airport -- and always ride the vans & respect their drivers.

 complimentary :rofl3:

I think the cart is among all the hubbub out where they're loading vans.

You definitely have the pulse of the daily needs for the families of Cozumel. You make a very good point. Thanks. Sue

48 pound lif BC, 3 regs, 19 cf pony, a few cameras, strobe, usual dive equipment, spare parts, clean T-shirt/day and other clothes, laptop, etc. - it all adds up: 2 - 50# checked, 1 - 40# roll-on, backpack. Hey I stopped taking my own coffee maker, but I don't know what else to leave home...?

I thought I was bad, I'm only pushing about 160# of luggage, including 2 checked bags, 1 very heavy carry on with all camera gear inside and on very heavy backpack with all necessary dive gear that might get pulled by TSA if in checked bags (like my Spare Air).

I'm still trying to figure out how to get 4 bags through the airport with only two arms when there aren't any carts around..

It's a pain traveling solo.. you can't split up that last bag to make things easier..:dontknow:

Spare Airs/Ponies flight in checked luggage ok. Mine always has.

Most airlines allow 2 checked @ 50# each, 1 roll-on @ 40#, plus the personal bag/backpack subject to discretion. I can piggyback my roll-on onto a checked bag for rolling thru an airport, but not for blocks.

Funny how that personal bag evolved. Airlines wanted to cut back to one carry-on period, but women wanted a carry-on plus a purse - and got it. Then photographers wanted a carry-on plus a camera bag since women got purses, then women wanted a carry-on, personal bag, and purse. Fight the good fight! :eyebrow: I've thought about adding a fanny bag since women get purses, but too much to keep up with even for me.

Funny how that personal bag evolved.

The last time I left CZM I was amazed and amused at what I saw at the airport. Two young people with a small baby must have bought up half the trinkets in CZM. They had 4 very large bags, 3 of which when put on the scale were all way over the 50 pound weight limit.

The counter person let them pull their bags and rearrange them. As everyone in the checkin line watched they moved their bags to the side and opened them up spreading the contents all over the floor. The fellow was carrying his personal item (a very large backpack) which he also laid on the floor. As we all watched they pulled a ton of items out of their overweight checked bags and stuffed it all in the backpack.. using as much force as they could muster to get it all in and then zipped closed. By the time they were done the backpack alone had to weigh 50 pounds or more.

They then fastened up their 3 large suitcases and reweighed them at the same checkin scale. They managed to get all three bags down to under 50 pounds each but it was then all being carried on the plane in the backpack.

I just watched and shook my head wondering what in the world had just been accomplished by the slight of hand that I just saw take place. The couple left CZM with the same amount of weight and the airline had accomplished absolutely nothing while still carrying the same amount of weight.

The irony in the result of the exercise still amuses me, go figure..:dontknow:

These personal digital scales help prevent airport surprises.

No roll-ons?
