Think how many more Spare airs they cold sell if they also came in hot pink and lime green, ooh or maybe a special limited edition chrome plated (ya'all are my witness and royalties are due to me if this is their next marketing strategy).

.....Do you think that a husband and wife might be sitting at the table and the husband goes, "hey honey, Mares just came out with a cool BC called the Morphous (or some crap like that) and we just gotta get a couple of them!" and the wife goes, "sweety, we sure ought to get us some Spare Airs because Scuba Diving recommends them." .......

the one dive shop in sydney i wont step into loves people like this...... i remember a guy once that was so concerned about his air consumption and the stressing aboot it made it worse so he went to his lds to talk to them and the only thing madam (lds owner) did was sell him a spare air :shakehead:

dont forget guys Christmas is coming up so there is going to be a yummy-mummy wife that going to find the magazine lying around & pick it up and pick something out for christmas

unfortunately for dad/hubby, he was meaning for her to spot the Salvo ad on the other page!!!

Great looking model. I think the rest of the article was about.... gear.

Which is why I fold down the pages for Ikelite, Gates and Great Barrier Reef liveaboards. :D

Luckily my wife doesn't shop from ads but if SHE DID get me a spare air, Whaler Kyle might realize his dream if I can get it on tape hitting it with my 223. Hah

Why do these scuba rags claim "the best" and who told them it was "the best."

I quote, "...Over the past 12 months, in both SubaLab reviews and our Gear Bag new products column, we've covered approximately 182 individual peices of gear ranging from cutting-edge dive computers and regulators to basic accesories. This month, we diecided to look back and name a few of our favorites as selected by the staff of "Scuba Diving""

I get all these magazine free lately. Today comes SCUBA DIVUNG. Ok, I read it and it has an artical about the Best Gear of 07----Hmmmmmm.

Well according to Scuba Diving Magazine the best gear is:

1) An aluminum 80
2) Aeries Atomos Poodle jacket and Mares Icon poodle jacket
3) Atomic regulators and Mares Abyss
4) Aeries computers
5) Oceanic data mask
6) Ocean Viper and Apollo fins
7) UK dive lights
8) SPARE AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What gives--I thought everybody dove BP/wings in DIR configuration and it was unanimous that the Spare Air was bad--bad--bad.

1) Al.80s have their place, in the warmest of climates. They make great stage bottles, too.
2) Ugh... for me.
3) Atomics regs are great, and I've not heard anything terrible about the Mares Abyss either.
4) Aeries makes some very decent computers. I recommend them frequently.
5) Ugh. (Although, I guess if you're so rich you use paper money to light cigars... or in the military/PSD where the heads-up display is actually important...)
6) Not really my fave, but the Apollo bio-fins are probably the best split fins out there... for what that's worth.
7) UK makes some very nice, reliable dive lights that work very well for the recreational diver who doesn't want to drop thousands on lights for the occasional night dive. I really like my light cannon and mini q40 eLED, although not as much as my 21w HID can light and Photon Torpedo LED backup, which cost almost 5x more.
8) UGH.

So aside from #2, 5 and 8, I don't see anything supremely wrong with that list. The fact that 2, 5 and 8 are on it, however, does make the whole thing somewhat suspect.

LOL, then they need to hire a more diverse group of divers to test their gear for inclusion into their best advertisers "Best Gear List" because I don't think Spare Air would make the list on many "scubaboard members" lists of Best Gear. While some of the gear in the artical is OK to mediorcre none of it ranks as BEST here or on a number of similar forums and some of it is down right bottom (which is far from best) like the Spare Air. Which is my point--why the dispairity.

Frankly, Scuba Labs has no credibility if this was their choices.

OK experts, did any great new dive device come out in 2007? The article was about the same old stuff, and some gizmos.

I'm not sure any of those greatest products would help me much. Over the past 30 years, the invention I like the most is the plastic zipper. That solved a problem.

I used to get Skin Diver magazine and it was useful. I always went to the back first to see what was on sale cheap as mail order.

Well, at least in my short time reading these boards I've learned that if a Scubaboard member doesn't like something then it must be crap. Some people around here need to get over themselves.
