I'm in the market for a computer now and it's down to the Suunto Mosquito, Vyper, or Cobra. I would like to get the wrist mount, but my problem is large wrists to begin with, plus 7mm suit, plus 5mm gloves, equals no way a any watchband is fitting.

I've seen mention of bungee and this and that as a possibilty, but I can't really get a mental picture. If someone's got the chance to further illustrate these options it would be appreciated.

Alternatively, one could loop the watchband through a D-Ring (kinda defeats the purpose of getting a wrist mount) or through the velcro on the gloves (instability makes me nervous).

Check out the link for a really good step by step with pictures for the bungee cord strap.
Computer Bungee Strap
Alternatively, have you tried a Waterborne Strap ? I use one on my watch for diving and everday use. These straps are pretty good size. I had to trim mine down a bit and I too have rather large wrists. Good luck with the search and let us know what you end up doing. :D

First off, welcome to the board, Saying.

"Wrists Like Mortadella".... Are you kidding me?!? Crimany. I'm peeing my pants here.

Although I do have sausage fingers, I regret to inform you that I only have wrists like genoa salami - so I can't really offer any assistance.

But there are others on the board who have limbs of a similiar lunchmeat, I'm sure.

You rock. This is simply the funniest thing I've read in months.

Welcome to the board - you are gonna fit in just fine.

Mortadella.... you're killing me.

Check out the Vytec. I've got one and the band is ENORMOUS. Matter of fact, it goes around my wrist and then covers the face of the computer...lol. I ended up tucking it underneath the band again as a precaution.

First off, yeah - go bungee - it's a lot simpler to get on and off. Secondly, I have an M1 from Mares. I don't have large wrists, but I can wrap the strap around my wrist twice.

Someone's gotta help me out here.....what pray tell is mortadella??

The bungee strap is probably a smart way to go if you decide on the Vyper. I still use the Suunto rubber strap on mine, but will probably try to install the DIY bungee strap before my next dive trip.

Just like someone said earlier about the Vytec, the Vyper strap is huge! I'm sure my wrists are nowhere near the diameter of yours, but when I wear the Vyper over a 3mm wetsuit I have about 4 inches of extra strap. I have to fold it back under the band to keep the excess out of the way.

I just measured mine with a tape measure. The total length of the strap and computer is 14 inches. I may not know what a mortadella is, but I do know this should be able to fit over one mighty big wrist. :approve:

Hey there,

I have a Mosquito...I'm assuming you know it comes with another strap so you can where it over your wetsuit? I used mine today with a 5 mil suit and 5 mil gloves and I had to put it on one of the smaller holes.

Peace,
Cathie

For the benefit of those of you from Kansas (or, anywhere else, for that manner), I am quoting the Foods section from the Italianmade.com website, specifically the Mortadella Subcat:

" Mortadella Bologna, the most famous sausage in the culinary tradition of the city of Bologna, dates back to the sixteenth century. Since the late Renaissance, there have been numerous literary and historical references to the product. In more recent times, the original area of production was extended to outlying districts as the food-making business and associated commerce expanded. Mortadella Bologna may be oval or cylindrical in shape. Its texture must be close and inelastic. When cut the Mortadella Bologna will be smooth and uniformly pink in colour. Each slice must be composed of at least fifteen per cent of small pearly-white squares of animal fat. The squares of fat must be evenly distributed and firmly embedded in the meat mixture. Mortadella Bologna has a distinctive aromatic scent and a characteristic taste, free of any hint of smoking. The area of production of Mortadella Bologna encompasses the following regions: Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, the Marches, Latium and the province of Trento."

Or, from a second cource:
mortadella [mohr-tuh-DEHL-uh]
This smoked sausage originated in Bologna, Italy, and is the original from which the slang name "baloney" came. It's made with ground beef and pork, cubes of pork fat and seasonings. The Italian version, which is not imported because it requires additional cooking steps before the U.S. government will approve it, is air-dried and has a smooth, delicate flavor. Canned, cooked versions are imported from Italy but they do not taste like the original. The American mortadella is basically bologna with cubes of pork fat and added garlic flavor. The Germans produce an excellent mortadella that contains pistachio nuts.

 Seems to be some conflict regarding the level of smoking this fine product should recieve - or at least impart to the taster.

Of course, you could just visit the official Mortadella website:

Official Mortadella Bologna Website

The site is in Italian, so I have no clue what they could be saying. Probably something like: "Look at this yummy stuff. Look at the care in which we make it fresh every day. Eat too much of our product and you'll need a bigger band for your Vytec..." or something like that. Nice pictures, though.

You know somewhere, in or near the little hamlet of Bologna, there is a plump, aging woman who was once the Mortadella Queen in the annual parade. Bet on it.

Deli 101 dismissed.

Just go to Cafe Italia on Barry Road and N. Oak Trfwy. Best Italian (actually Sicilian) you'll ever have IMHO. If you don't agree..you can go out back and "discuss" it with the proprietor ;-0
The Lasagna is a family recipe brought here from the great grandmother. They have plenty of types of Mortadella.

Watcha mean-a you don't know-a what-a mortadella is-a?
Ma che cosa?...vai! vai!
Vai farti f!@#re

For the benefit of those of you from Kansas

Naaah..actually we in Kansas City know quite a bit about Italian food. Matter of fact our city is referenced quite a bit concerning the Italian (my apologies to the paisan...ahem...Sicilian) community here.
Feel free to reference the movies Casino, Godfather saga...etc. And paisan from other cities admit to this little known fact.
