I prefer to wear a beanie, personally I hate hoods becuase they choke me to much and the beanie alows you to cover your head without anything wrapping around your neck. I wear it on every dive, only problem is it sometimes it messes with my ears and I have problems equalizing. Im assuming its because there is less water movement in my ear with the beanie on.

I live and dive in So Cal, comfort is as important to me as almost anything else while I'm diving. I have had the opportunity to dive is warm water but most of my diving is spent in relatively cold water so I seldom get wet without a hood. I did go through a number of hoods until I found one that just plain works without any real discomfort. Be safe , dive often.

I always wear a good when diving Norte California although drop it when I dive Baja or the tropics.

Since I may do 5 dives in a day, and water temps at depth may be much colder due to thermoclines, the heat retention due to the hood prevents me from getting too cold to video on my later dives.

Besides, the hood prevents the ladies from seeing that I haven't had a haircut recently!

I feel like I CANT dive without my hood. I don't even have long hair, but the mask strap pulls it anyway. Besides, SoCal is never warm enough to dive without and when I go to warmer places it just feels weird not too. I thought I was going to have a problem when I got a new piercing (industrial, long bar goes through two spots in the cartiledge) but I just got a Henderson hyperstretch hooded vest and I'm good to go - LOVE my HHHV :)
