you know, they put dimples on golf balls and spoilers on the back of cars to break up the laminar flow of air and make it turbulent. Laminar flow can have a suction effect because it doesn't detach from the surface as easily, so a smooth surface can actually have more drag than a bumpy surface.

so.......

Maybe you should submit that to Boeing....
A washboard effect on the wings might be the ticket...
Or maybe big bungee style dents around the fuselage!

Include your golf ball explaination...
That should really convince them to try it...

Come on guys! The streamline effects of bungies wings vs. smooth can be compared to a neoprene drysuit (or wet suit) vs. a shell suit. Anyone who has dove both a wetsuit and a shell suit will tell you that the drag of a shell suit is greater than a wet suit. It's very noticable. The bungied wings work the same way.

You guys are crackin' me up :D.

Mike

I don't think it just smooth vs. not smooth. The bungied wing (without air) will have a significant frontal area. The non-bungied wing when empty is flat, kinda like a knife.

Hey Yoop,
I didn't realize neoprene drysuits were DIR!

They aren't. Those were the days when I was more "lost" than I am now.

:D

sorry, guys, just trolling.

I was pretty amazed at how much faster I swam when I went from a neoprene dry suit back to a wet suit. Part of that was because I had to get back to the boat because I was freezing.

I think I hear something in the background going:
"pocketa pocketa ~ pocketa pocketa"
Must be the sound of your *deco* regulator, huh?

Take, these bungee wings
And let me die again
And descend so free
When we hear, Jablonski sing
The book of DIR will open up, and let us in
