OK.. I'll sit in a corner and wait for someone to say that the bungeed wings create less drag than the smooth ones, then we gonna have some *real* fun. :D

It never needs maintenance, you don't have to learn how to use it, and you should never ever test it out. Sounds like my kinda gear... I bet you don't even have to re-fill the tanks!

Like I said... if some of you have a double, it's only a redundancy. If someone else has a double, then it's needless waste and more failure points; don't do it. Politicians make a living out of this kind of double speak.

Those BWOD are the smoothest BC I have ever dove with, very streamlined, no drag what so ever........BTW, That's why I dive A Dive Rite or Halcyon wing:)

Can't you do better than hyperbole, Pete?

My equipment doesn’t need maintenance? Just who's putting words into whose mouth?

All equipment needs maintenance, including mine. All equipment fails, including mine. That's why you want to pare your equipment down to a bare minimum while maintaining a required level of redundancy. Less equipment is less maintenance and less things to go wrong.

How'd we get onto doubles? Unable to support your position on bungees so you're moving elsewhaere?

and they support me just fine. I don't have a problem with ya'll having Flacid Floaty Wings... they work for you. It's just that there are areas of contention... I don't believe there is a runaway deflation problem, though you accuse me of admitting to it... I truly believe that you are twisting my words, in the same manner I twisted yours. Not that I expect you will see it that way, but it's true.

You dive dry... and so have extra failure points that I do not have... I use an additional bladder which gives me the redundant buoyancy that you get from your dry suit. You see this as a big deal... I see it as inherently risky to dive without certain redundancies. When I dive with my 55# single bladder wing, I will be diving with only one buoyant device... not sure I like that!

I also like the rock solid trim as opposed to the Flacid Floaty Wings. But really, that is more conjecture on my part than truth. I will know more when I use my OMS FFWs in the pool tomorrow. I am open to new things, but will refuse to give into to mere hype, just because that would be the convenient thing to do. You, or George, or anyone can say anything they like... If it is a theory, I will treat it as such. If you can really "splain" it rationally, I would be glad to listen. So far most of the "rationale" has been "scare tactics"... with nothing to back it up but mere conjecture. Only one person has pointed out a single problem that was witnessed. Other than that, there is a whole lot of off-gassing going on, and very little substance to go with it. Unlike many, I am more than willing to try different things out and not leave it up for others to decide.

After all is said and done, there is usually a lot more said than done. I see the need to denigrate the bungeed wing as pointless. Somehow, I think your karma should run over your dogma here, and stop the bashing. You call them "Wings of Death" and yet you still haven't shown ONE instance of a person dieing or even being injured by one. Do you have to use them? No. You talk (at least insinuate) about how nearsighted I am being... how stupid to not see your side... hmnnnnnnnn... maybe we should stop and listen to our own smack. No piece of gear is made any better by bashing the other gear. For that matter, no agency is made any better by bashing another. If they are truly "Wings of Death" then just show me a death certificate or two that support that. Until then, you are just "off-gassing"...

When are you guys gonna learn...

Some people (agencies included) will continue to bash others no matter what! It's what they are known for!!! Or should I just oink instead?

it goes both ways....

this old man had a farm,
and on this farm he had a pig,
with an oink oink here
and an oink onik there.........

Haven't run across a friendly flame war here in awhile. Quite entertaining.:boom:

Omar,

Its old Mc Donald had a farm.

Roak,

I am accustomed to my toys comming some assembly required. I always read the directions. That way I know I put it togeather right. I'd think reading directions for putting the finishing touches on a BC would be even more important. If I were to buy a back plate and continuous webbing to lace it would it not be advisable to carefully read instuctions to do it properly. My point was to Eric who said the BC that got someone killed had the factory assembled bungies too tight. They don't come from the factory like that. And if you follow the directions they can't be tied too tight.
I believe Pete's point about replacing bungies was that the ones on his wing had worn out and needed to be replaced. Hoses wear out, mouth peices wear out, o-rings wear out and all periodically need to be replaced.

As with many other things in my life. I have listened to both sides of the arguement. I will dove what I currently own. If I like it I wll continue to dive it. If I get other opportunities to dive something else I will try that too and I will make my decision off personal experience.
